It’s rare for musicians to make it into the Honours lists, but when they do it’s because they’re exceptional. Classic Melbourne congratulates Joseph Tawadros, whose Australia Day Order of Australia citation reads:
Joseph Tawadros, Newtown: For significant service to music as an oud performer, composer and recording artist. Virtuoso oud player who has won numerous awards, played with orchestras around the world and released at least 11 albums. Australia Day ambassador 2015 and 1016.
Tawadros ( and brother James) has graced our stage a number of times recently, perhaps most memorably in the pick of the ANZAC concerts in 2015. This was presented by the ACO, and centred on a unique performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
The musicians reprised this version of the work this year. This time Classic Melbourne’s reviewer was Josephine Vains.
Thanks to all the musicians for these performances, and congratulations to Joseph Tawdros, AM, for his well deserved award.
