DESCRIPTION:Heidelberg Choral Society presents Haydn’s Mass In Time of War (Missa in Tempore Belli) and Schubert’s Mass in A-flat Major\, under the direction of Peter Bandy.\n \nIn 1796\, Franz Josef Haydn composed this piece\, which is widely known for its dramatic use of timpani. It is one of the most popular of his fourteen masses. This piece has also been long thought to express an anti-war sentiment\, even though there is no explicit message in the text itself\, and no clear indication from Haydn that this was his intention. \nFranz Schubert’s Mass in A-flat Major is a work that time and again occupied the composer anew\, with which he\, in his words\, strived towards the “highest in art”. \nHeidelberg Choral Society and Orchestra will be joined by eminent soloists Jacqueline Porter (Soprano)\, Margaret Orr (Mezzo Soprano)\, Timothy Reynolds (Tenor) and Nathan Lay (Baritone). \n
