SUMMARY:Tempo Rubato: Slava Grigoryan & Al Slavik: 'And so\, it turns'
DESCRIPTION:Australian guitarist Slava Grigoryan and Austrian bassist Al Slavik re-unite for an Australian tour celebrating the release of their 3rd album ‘And so\, it turns’. \nA chance meeting in London in the mid-nineties led to a strong personal and musical bond between Australia’s premier classical guitarist and an Austrian electric bass player more ensconced in the pop/ rock world of the time. \nWhat could possibly go wrong?\n… nothing as it turns out. \nWith their wide and varied individual influences\, they found common ground releasing two albums\, ‘Another Night in London’ (Sony\, 1999) and ‘Continental Shift’ (Which Way Music\, 2005). They waited for the right time and place to add to their catalogue\, and as it happens December 2025 in Italy seemed appropriate (these guys aren’t in any sort of a rush). You see\, it’s all about coming together and creating something of beauty. \nThey’ve succeeded. Again. \nFor this tour they will perform pieces from ‘And so\, it turns’ plus a selection from their previous albums. \nRegarded as a wizard of the guitar\, Slava has forged a prolific reputation as a classical guitar virtuoso. Collaborations have played a huge part in Grigoryan’s career\, most notable of these are in the trio with legendary USA guitarist Ralph Towner and Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel and the duo with brother Leonard Grigoryan. He has received 4 ARIA awards and an incredible 24 ARIA Award nominations. Two of his ARIA Awards were in consecutive years for his project Bach Cello Suites Vols I & II. His international touring schedule has seen him perform throughout Europe\, Asia\, and the USA\, as well as more exotic performances in Brazil\, South Africa\, India and the Middle East. Slava is the Artistic Director of the Adelaide Guitar Festival\, a position he held from 2009 – 2025. \nAl Slavik is an LA-based composer and producer\, known especially for his work on the electric bass. Originally from Vienna\, he has built a career that spans pop\, rock\, and jazz\, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other well-known musicians. As a session musician Slavik has recorded and performed with European and international artists\, including Alphaville\, Adrian Belew\, and with band members from Depeche Mode\, Sting\, Level 42 and many others. \n\nFriday 1 May 2026 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM (UTC+10)\n\nTempo Rubato\, 34 Breese St\, Brunswick VIC 3056 \nTICKETS $50 Online sales close at 7:30pm on the day of the concert. Tickets can be purchased at the door\, dependent on availability. Tempo Rubato is a cashless venue.

DESCRIPTION:The fourth instalment in the Mystical Mozart series\, presented by two of the country’s most prolific and adventurous musicians. Violinist Rachael Beesley and pianist Coady Green are each recognised in their own right both in Australia and overseas for their virtuosity and skill. \nThis concert concludes the series\, which has featured the entirety of Mozart’s violin and piano sonatas and some of the variations for violin and piano. Beesley and Green bring a fresh and innovative interpretation of the Classics by encouraging individual artistry and artistic agency and bringing a boldness of spirit to the process of exploring the notes left to us by Mozart. \nThis final program features Mozart’s late Viennese sonatas\, composed between the years 1784 and 1787. \n\nFriday 14 March 2025 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM (UTC+11)\n\nTempo Rubato\, 34 Breese St\, Brunswick VIC 3056 \nTICKETS $35 | $25 | STUDENTS FREE

SUMMARY:Tempo Rubato: Axes Quartet - JacobTV: Celestial Cravings
DESCRIPTION:Axes Quartet – JacobTV: Celestial Cravings\n\nNiels Bijl\nSara Beale\nMichale Lichnovsky\nShannon Ebeling \nThis bold and out-of-the-box performance brings the music of the highly successful Dutch composer JacobTV (Jacob ter Veldhuis) to Melbourne\, via a gripping program for saxophone quartet and multimedia. The program is built around a world premiere Jacob has given to Niels and Axes Quartet: NUTS\, a work commenting on the violent passing of George Flloyd through police brutality\, and the global BLM movement it sparked. \nJacob has a stunning portfolio of works for all kinds of instrumentation and video\, that are performed worldwide. He focuses mostly on current affairs\, with either beautiful\, celestial sounds\, or harsh social commentary. He uses clips from news media or outspoken TV talkshows\, which highlight the more excessive behaviours humans often display. \nShort moments of tranquility are woven between the pieces\, in the form of short videos created especially by the composer for this occasion. \n\nThursday 5 December 2024 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM (UTC+11)\n\nTempo Rubato\, 34 Breese St\, Brunswick VIC 3056 \nTICKETS $35 | $27
