SUMMARY:Tricolore: Three Italian Maestri
DESCRIPTION:The Melbourne Musicians directed by Frank Pam present a program featuring three outstanding soloists in three of the greatest and most popular works of the 18th century. \nPergolesi (1710-1736) Stabat Mater; Albinoni (1671-1751) Oboe Concerto in D minor ) Op.9 No.2; Alessandro Marcello (1684-1750) Oboe Concerto in D minor.      Tania de Jong soprano\, Hamish Gould countertenor\, Anne Gilby oboe. \nPergolesi’s Stabat Mater was his last work before his untimely death aged 26. It is a masterpiece and was the most published work in the 18th century and is still popular today. The Albinoni concerto is the best of his 16 oboe concertos with an Adagio like an operatic aria. The Marcello Oboe Concerto is one of the most popular baroque concertos. It was first known in a keyboard transcription by Bach (almost his exact contemporary) and is striking for its sustained note of pathos\, especially in the beautiful slow movement. \n
