SUMMARY:Past\, Present and Future - Grigoryan Brothers
DESCRIPTION:With a repertoire spanning centuries\, continents and genres\, amazing telepathy and the ability to draw emotion from every note\, Slava & Leonard Grigoryan are justifiably regarded as Australia’s finest classical guitarists. \nIt is not uncommon to hear painters\, sculptors\, writers and musicians speak of how their art flows through them\, not from them – they are mere conduits. And so it is for the Grigoryan Brothers whose performances are marked by an intangible connection to the soul of the music they play. They are so ‘in the moment’ that the term mindfulness seems at odds with their state of mind – more to the point\, they are free of thought and allow the music to just be. \nWhile it is their individual and combined artistry as well as their compositional prowess that brings the music alive\, they are also forever grateful to the composers and arrangers who have provided the framework for their performances. \nFor this performance\, Slava and Leonard are honouring those who have provided the fuel for their fire. \nPast: Favourite works from their back catalogue of recordings – from Bach to Towner\, from Tchaikovsky to Lovelady. \nPresent: Their own compositions and arrangements from their last two releases: the soundtrack to the award-winning movie ‘A Boy Called Sailboat’ and their collaboration with the National Museum of Australia ‘This Is Us: A Musical Reflection of Australia’. \nFuture: Audiences will have the opportunity to hear works from Slava and Leonard’s latest recording – to be released in 2024 – a selection of compositions penned specifically for the brothers by friends from all over the world. \nFriday 20th October 2023\nDoors 7pm\n7.30pm – 9pm\, incl. interval\nBarn Gallery \nAdult $50 / Concession $45 / Child $40\nBook your tickets at montsalvat.com.au/whats-on

SUMMARY:Hope - Nat Bartsch
DESCRIPTION:Eltham-based pianist/composer Nat Bartsch performs her ARIA-nominated ABC Classic album Hope\, joined by Lucy Warren (violin) and Charlotte Jacke (cello). \n\nHope is an album for piano\, strings and electronics built around Nat’s distinctive blend of gentle melodic improvisation\, jazz harmony and cinematic neoclassical composition. The suite was composed in 2020\, first with the smell of bushfire smoke in her home from the Black Summer fires\, and later during Melbourne’s long covid lockdowns. Hence the title is an abbreviation of hopefulness and hopelessness\, and music exploring the space between. The intention is for the listener to immerse themselves in the music\, reflecting and acknowledging all we have endured in the past few years\, but ultimately\, by the final piece\, be looking to the future with a sense of hope. The album reached #1 on the iTunes Classical Australia charts and #3 on the ARIA classical charts. A jazz/post-rock re-interpretation\, Hope Renewed\, was released in March of this year.
