SUMMARY:Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: Saint-Saëns' Organ Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Queensland Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici returns to lead the MSO in a program of orchestral favourites with an epic finale featuring the majestic grand organs of Melbourne Town Hall and Robert Blackwood Hall. \n\nDebussy’s famous Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun) is a symphonic poem that some consider to be a turning point in music history\, as classical music entered the modern age.\nRavel’s Mother Goose is an idyllic evocation of childhood. Inspired by the fairy tale creators of the French Baroque\, the suite achieves its powerful emotional effect through the simple radiance of its poetic vision.\nSaint-Saëns’ thundering Organ Symphony is a stunning display of the visceral power of this colossal instrument. This symphony is probably best remembered in pop culture as the music to which Farmer Hoggett dances as he nurses his pig\, Babe\, back to health.\n\nMelbourne Symphony Orchestra\nUmberto Clerici conductor\nCalvin Bowman organ \nDebussy Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune\nRavel Mother Goose Suite\nSaint-Saëns Symphony No.3 Organ \nDuration: approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes including interval \n\nThursday 10 August 2023 7:30pm at Melbourne Town Hall Sold out\nFriday 11 August 2023 7:30pm at Robert Blackwood Hall Selling fast\nTICKETS: Standard $35-$105; Concession $30-$100; Child (August 11 performance only) $20 \n\n
