SUMMARY:Genesis Baroque – Holding Court with J.S. Bach
DESCRIPTION:Genesis Baroque make its Melbourne Recital Centre debut with an exploration of J.S. Bach’s humanity and charisma.\nDescribed as a ‘unique and polished – and importantly\, welcome – voice in the Melbourne music scene’ (Cut Common)\, Genesis Baroque first stepped onto the stage in 2017. The ensemble has since cemented itself a master of the vibrant repertoire from the 17th and 18th centuries. \nAs Melbourne’s dynamic period ensemble\, Genesis Baroque’s debut at Melbourne Recital Centre sees the ensemble travel to an era of opulence and explore works from J.S. Bach’s later years. With its intimate acoustics\, the rich tapestries of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No.2 come to life in the Primrose Potter Salon – a perfect venue to mimic the Courts and cafes Bach’s compositions were originally crafted for. \nDescribed as producing ‘a rich\, sonorous sound’ (Sydney Morning Herald)\, Genesis Baroque showcases its precision and passion during Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.5. This three-movement musical triumph featuring harpsichord\, violin\, and flute is one that can only be fully appreciated in a live concert setting. \n\nThursday 14 March 2024 6pm;   MRC\, Primrose Potter Salon \nDuration: 1 hour (no interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $50 (Concession $40) \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Duo Eclettico – The Bachs and Princess Anna Amalia
DESCRIPTION:Reimagined masterpieces from J.S. Bach\, J.C. Bach\, C.P.E. Bach and Princess Anna Amalia.\nAward-winning Duo Eclettico explore the wealth of repertoire available for their unique combination of instruments – saxophone and piano. The pair are passionate about unearthing complex and vibrant repertoire\, as well as commissioning new work\, particularly that of local artists. \nAbout the concert\nTheir performance in Primrose Potter Salon takes major works from J.S. Bach\, J.C. Bach\, C.P.E. Bach and Princess Anna Amalia. Reinventing their virtuosity and lyricism\, Duo Eclettico present the world premiere of these arrangements for saxophone and piano. \nThe daughter of Frederick William I\, Princess Anna Amalia of Prussia was a superb composer and writer and was Carl Philipp Emanuel (CPE) Bach’s first royal patron. She was also the patron of the ‘German Sappho’\, poet Anna Luisa Karsch\, who provided the libretti for several of CPE’s vocal works. Anna Amalia secretly married one of her brother’s soldiers\, and was banished to a convent\, where she continued to write. She preserved a major collection of JS and CPE Bach’s music\, including the Brandenburg Concertos and the B Minor Mass. \nThese works are highly virtuosic and frequently full of beautiful\, vocal inspired aria lines\, making them ideal for saxophone and piano. \n\nWednesday 15 March 2023 6pm; Primrose Potter Salon; Duration: 1 hour (no interval) \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $50 ($40 Concession)
