DESCRIPTION:Update: This concert has been cancelled\, based on the advice issued by health authorities in order to minimise the risk and spread of COVID-19. \nTHIS INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATION OF BEETHOVEN’S LIFE AND MUSIC\, DIRECTED BY RICHARD TOGNETTI\, FEATURES MUSICIANS FROM ALL ACROSS THE GLOBE IN A TRUE CONCERT SPECTACULAR.\n\nThe orchestra will include performers from ANAM’s partner institutions: the Orchestra Academy of Bayerisches Staatsorchester (Munich)\, Colburn School (Los Angeles)\, Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London)\, Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker (Berlin) and the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki)\nIn keeping with the festive spirit of the occasion\, this unique celebration will include one of Beethoven’s symphonic masterpieces – in fact one of the greatest works of Western culture in any medium – the Fifth Symphony\, which takes you on an eternally compelling journey from darkness to light\nThe concert also includes a surprising and beautiful transformation of Beethoven’s last major work\, his String Quartet no. 16\, and – to demonstrate what the word ‘celebration’ really means – the nine-minute mash-up by Louis Andriessen that can only be described as a musical party.\n\nBEETHOVEN Quartet no. 16 in F major arr. DESCRIPTION:LAWRENCE POWER\, ONE OF THE GREATEST VIOLISTS\, RETURNS AFTER A JOYOUS ANAM DEBUT IN 2017 FOR THIS MULTI-FACETED PROJECT\, PLAYING VIOLIN AND VIOLA WITH EQUAL MASTERY.\n\nThe concert begins with two 20th century landmarks: Berio’s meditation on Sicilian folk song for viola\, percussion and tape\, and Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s most celebrated work for violin and strings\nHartmann’s Concerto funebre expresses his despair at the rise of Nazism\, yet contains a powerful thread of optimism. As he put it: “The intellectual and spiritual hopelessness of the period… are contrasted with an expression of hope…”\nFinally\, Power and ANAM musicians explore the four seasons in Buenos Aires\, in vivid musical settings by tango legend Astor Piazolla.
