SUMMARY:Lyric Opera presents Il Signor Bruschino
DESCRIPTION:Escape the dreary Melbourne weather this June as Lyric Opera of Melbourne takes you on a Roman holiday with Il Signor Bruschino – a sparkling one-act comedy by the beloved Italian composer Gioachino Rossini. \n  \nThis early work of Rossini was composed for an intimate Venice theatre in 1813 and will be right at home at Chapel off Chapel in Prahran. \n  \nThe comedy unravels as two lovers attempt to deceive their elders in order to marry… with more plot twists than a bowl of spaghetti. The production will be sung in English so that everyone can enjoy the comedy. \n  \nThis tale of intentionally-mistaken identity will be brought to the stage by an exciting team of young Melbourne theatre makers led by Lara Kerestes\, under the mentorship of director Suzanne Chaundy as part of the inaugural Opera Director’s Workshop. \n  \nRossini’s score is packed with vivacious and inventive music performed by an exceptional Melbourne cast led by Shanul Sharma\, the former thrash metal singer who returns to Lyric Opera after his success in Werther.  The cast also includes much loved Lyric Opera artists Rebecca Rashleigh\, Bruce Raggatt and Matt Thomas. The chamber orchestra will be conducted by Lyric Opera’s Artistic Director\, Pat Miller. \n  \nAt just over an hour in length\, Lyric Opera’s brand new production will be a great night at the theatre for first time and seasoned opera goers alike. \n  \nIl Signor Bruschino is showing Monday 6th\, Wednesday 8th\, Thursday 9th and Saturday 11th June at 7.30pm and Sunday 12th June at 2.30pm\, at Chapel off Chapel\, 12 Little Chapel St\, Prahran. \n  \nTickets can be purchased here  or by calling 03 8290 7000 and start from only $29\, making opera accessible for everyone.

SUMMARY:Pygmalion. Jean-Philippe Rameau.
DESCRIPTION:Rameau’s one act opera Pygmalion (1748) is an audacious riff on the tale of artist who falls in love with their art. Based on the play by Ovid\, which inspired George Bernard Shaw’s play which in turn inspired ‘My Fair Lady’\, Pygmalion is baroque opera at its most irreverent and fun. Pygmalion is a sculptor cursed to fall in love with his creation but ‘love’ brings the statue to life\, and everyone dances. Rameau brings this story to life with music of great originality and excitement in a work that is equal parts opera and ballet.\n\nLyric brings the opera to the stage with an exceptional creative team with direction by James Cutler\, choreography by Georgia Taylor\, design by Rob Sowinski with music direction by Pat Miller. Performances at Lyric’s home at Chapel off Chapel will include both early and late shows so Pygmalion can be the perfect entrée or nightcap to your evening out.\n\n\nThere is now an event created you can promote and share:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1065620243479683/
