SUMMARY:Musica Viva Australia: The Cage Project
DESCRIPTION:A mesmerising spectacle for ears and eyes.\nAustralian percussionist\, composer\, and sound artist Matthias Schack-Arnott collaborates with acclaimed French pianist Cédric Tiberghien on John Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes of 1948. \nKnown for his unique approach to sound\, Schack-Arnott creates sculptural musical worlds that are beautifully lit and dramatically staged. In The Cage Project\, he reimagines Cage’s iconic prepared piano work\, augmenting it with a massive kinetic sound sculpture that floats above the piano\, dancing in synchronicity with Tiberghien’s exquisite playing. \nA pioneer in percussive development\, Cage used the prepared piano to expand the instrument’s sonic possibilities. More than 70 years later\, The Cage Project transforms it into a three dimensional sculptural world\, with Tiberghien at its heart. \nPremiered at the 2023 Adelaide and Perth Festivals\, The Cage Project was described by Limelight as ‘engagingly playful\, richly emotional and deeply meditative.’ Now\, audiences in Canberra\, Melbourne\, and Sydney can experience its magic. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday 04 February 2025 – 7:00pm \n\n\nDuration: 1 hour 10 mins (no interval). SUMMARY:Robin Fox presents Triptych
DESCRIPTION:A hypnotic fusion of high-art techno\, sonic mass\, and buzzing electronica.\nStep into the immersive world of Triptych\, the award-winning work from visionary Australian audio-visual (AV) artist and composer Robin Fox. Described as an ‘audio-visual space-time carving\,’ Triptych merges Fox’s two creative passions – electronic music and audio-visual mechanical synaesthesia. Using custom-built hardware to create simultaneous sound from laser projections\, what you hear is what you see. \nInspired by the pioneering work of Polish AV artist Stanislaus Ostoja-Kotkowski\, Fox channels decades of exploration into the synchronicity of light and sound\, pushing his art into bold\, uncharted territory. Uniquely mapped to each performance venue\, Triptych transforms the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall into a hypnotic fusion of high-art techno\, sonic mass\, and buzzing electronica – demanding a live\, communal experience. \nInternationally recognised for his work spanning live performance\, exhibitions\, and contemporary dance\, Robin Fox is the founding director of Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) and Melbourne Recital Centre’s Artist in Residence for 2025. Fox’s critically acclaimed Triptych premiered at Unsound Krakow in 2022 and has toured extensively\, headlining Berlin Atonal\, Barbican (London)\, Ephemera (Warsaw) and Lincoln Center (NY). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday 30 January 2025 – 7:30pm \n\n\nDuration: 1 hour 45 mins (incl. interval). DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a morning of diverse repertoire that transcends time and musical boundaries.\nIn this mesmerising morning\, musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) unite with Principal Horn of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra\, Katy Woolley\, for a captivating exploration of different musical styles and eras. \nOriginally commissioned in celebration of Carnegie Hall’s 100th anniversary\, American composer Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman Part III features a double brass quintet and was written in tribute to ‘women who are adventurous and take risks’; those who have shattered conventions and made a significant impact on society. \nFollowing this celebration of female strength and resilience\, the ethereal beauty of Morten Lauridsen O Magnum Mysterium is on full display in an arrangement by Phillip Littlemore\, and Samuel Barber’s Mutations from Bach re-works Bach’s timeless melodies through the lens of contemporary interpretation. \nFinally\, Katy Woolley and her ‘evocative French horn’ (ArtsHub) lead the ANAM Orchestra through Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Wind Quartet. This elegant work with its unusual instrumentation spotlights the oboe\, clarinet\, horn\, and bassoon alongside the orchestra to create a unique\, and rich listening experience. \nMorning Tea\nJoin us for coffee plus sweet and savory treats from 10am in the ground floor foyer. \n\nWednesday 16 October 2024 11am;  MRC Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nDuration: 1 hour 15 mins (no interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $49 ($42 Concession) \n\n\n\n
