SUMMARY:Tognetti in Recital
DESCRIPTION:Tognetti and Osborne: A rare and intimate recital.\nPianist Steven Osborne’s recent concerts with the Australian Chamber Orchestra were hailed as “the most thrilling musical memory of the entire 2012 season” (The Australian)\, “an evening of pure delight” (West Australian) and “a ripsnorter of a performance” (News Local) so it’s no surprise Richard Tognetti chose Osborne to partner in this rare and intimate recital. \nTogether they perform three violin sonatas\, Prokofiev’s virtuosic and lyrical showpiece\, Debussy’s powerful last-ever completed work and the final and most reflective of Beethoven’s violin sonatas. \nThe concert opens with Prokofiev’s lyrical and graceful melodies and Fratres\, described by Tognetti as “Arvo Pärt at his instrumental best.” \nPresented by Australian Chamber Orchestra

SUMMARY:Boundless
DESCRIPTION:Haydn String Quartet in G Major op 77 no 1\nBeethoven String Quartet op 95 Serioso\nBartók String Quartet no 5 \nHere are three masterpieces\, from arguably the three greatest composers for the string quartet. Haydn’s op 77 no 1 is the grand\, crowning achievement of a life inventing\, exploring and perfecting the genre. Written ten years later\, in Beethoven’s middle period\, the Serioso quartet is all fire and crystal whilst remaining compositionally one of the strictest and most tightly structured works he ever wrote. \nIn Bartók’s Quartet no 5 we hear the master of the 20th century quartet adding another dimension of emotional depth to his already highly sharpened\, perfectly constructed middle period works. Ever since its first performance in 1935\, it has been hailed as one of the ultimate challenges for string quartets.

SUMMARY:Dmitry Sinkovsky
DESCRIPTION:An emerging star of the next generation of Baroque violinists.\nA phenomenal musician\, giving himself entirely to music and with incredible energy and absolutely dazzling technique\, Dmitry Sinkovsky has combined two very rare gifts – as a Baroque violin virtuoso and as a unique singer. \nA passionate Russian artist\, Dmitry is the rapidly emerging star of the next generation of baroque violinists. He became completely enamoured by Baroque repertoire while still a student at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He is a current beneficiary of the international Jumpstart Jr Foundation which provides him with an original Francesco Ruggeri violin made in Cremona in 1675. \nA highly regarded laureate in numerous European competitions over the last eight years\, his beautiful voice will shine in between his performances of the exciting violin concertos of Antonio Vivaldi. Because of their astonishing difficulty and virtuosity\, the concertos Dmitry and Artistic Director Paul Dyer have chosen are rarely heard. \nUnsurprisingly\, Dmitry Sinkovsky can play them with unrivalled precision and sophistication. \nPresented by Australian Brandenburg Orchestra

SUMMARY:Mostly Mozart A French Connection
DESCRIPTION:One of the most important French composers of the Baroque era.\nJean-Philippe Rameau was one of the most important French composers of the Baroque era. His Les Indes galantes\, termed an opéra-ballet\, is a delicious song and dance spectacle exhibiting the French flair for colour and movement. \nRameau’s French compatriots Jean Baptiste Lully and Cécile Chaminade add to this rich musical bouillabaisse with works that will transport you to continental Europe. Chaminade’s Concertino for flute and orchestra is considered fiendishly difficult with a highly decorative solo part that is quite demanding for the soloist and Mozart’s flute concerto with its unassuming grace\, imaginative workmanship and expressive power is equally challenging. \nMozart exhibited a special affinity with the woodwind family\, writing prolifically for the instruments throughout his lifetime. The G major Concerto is a stand-out work with its delectable melody and elegance. \nPresented by Melbourne Recital Centre

SUMMARY:Australian Chamber Orchestra Piano Quintets
DESCRIPTION:Slavic melancholy and joy.\nSatu Vänskä performs firecracker showpiece Subito on the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Stradivarius violin\, launching into a chamber music concert of Slavic melancholy and joy. \nWritten just prior to the Nazi invasion of the USSR\, Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet is a dramatic and harrowing premonition of the coming terror. \nMelting away the turbulence of Shostakovich is the bright\, melodious joy of Dvořák’s piano quintet\, one of the greatest pieces of chamber music in the canon. Internationally regarded for performances of “immense power and an extraordinary range of colours” (New York Times)\, Finnish pianist Paavali Jumppanen is our perfect partner for these stirring works. \nPlease note there will be a pre-concert talk in the Salon Auditorium\, and a post-concert CD signing by pianist Paavali Jumppanen in the ground floor foyer. \nPresented by Australian Chamber Orchestra
