SUMMARY:Lior – The Blue Parade
DESCRIPTION:Lior performs his new album The Blue Parade\, along with beloved songs from his catalogue.\nFollowing a recent sold-out album preview in the Salon\, Lior marks the first major outing for his highly anticipated new record\, The Blue Parade. \nOne of Australia’s most cherished singer-songwriters\, Lior is renowned for his soul-stirring voice and songs that resonate with truth and sincerity. He burst onto the Australian music scene in 2005 with his debut album\, Autumn Flow\, which has become one of the most successful independent debut releases in Australian music history. His passion for new challenges has led to awe-inspiring collaborations with all the major Australian orchestras\, earning him the prestigious Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship for outstanding excellence and courage in music. \nAs an artist\, Lior draws deeply from his own life and observations of the world around him. Never one to shy away from expressing the full spectrum of the human experience\, his compelling songs find a way to uplift even when reflecting upon darker themes lyrically and musically. An expansion of his earlier work\, The Blue Parade was written with Melbourne-based guitarist/composer Cameron Deyell and produced by long-term collaborator Lachlan Carrick\, giving rise to an expansive and cinematic soundscape. SUMMARY:ANAM: Mostly Mozart – Sinfonia Concertante
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a morning of diverse repertoire that transcends time and musical boundaries.\nIn this mesmerising morning\, musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) unite with Principal Horn of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra\, Katy Woolley\, for a captivating exploration of different musical styles and eras. \nOriginally commissioned in celebration of Carnegie Hall’s 100th anniversary\, American composer Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman Part III features a double brass quintet and was written in tribute to ‘women who are adventurous and take risks’; those who have shattered conventions and made a significant impact on society. \nFollowing this celebration of female strength and resilience\, the ethereal beauty of Morten Lauridsen O Magnum Mysterium is on full display in an arrangement by Phillip Littlemore\, and Samuel Barber’s Mutations from Bach re-works Bach’s timeless melodies through the lens of contemporary interpretation. \nFinally\, Katy Woolley and her ‘evocative French horn’ (ArtsHub) lead the ANAM Orchestra through Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Wind Quartet. This elegant work with its unusual instrumentation spotlights the oboe\, clarinet\, horn\, and bassoon alongside the orchestra to create a unique\, and rich listening experience. \nMorning Tea\nJoin us for coffee plus sweet and savory treats from 10am in the ground floor foyer. \n\nWednesday 16 October 2024 11am;  MRC Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nDuration: 1 hour 15 mins (no interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $49 ($42 Concession) \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Australian Brandenburg Orchestra – Handel's House
DESCRIPTION:Step inside and indulge!\nFrom the moment Yukie Sato enters Handel’s House\, you’ll feel the force of her gravity. It might be the house that Handel built\, but it is this glowing soprano who makes it her own. \nThe purity of her voice is set to deliver a Handel experience with uncompromising clarity\, beckoning her audiences to surrender to the siren as she holds us in the palm of her hand\, cracks open our hearts\, and lovingly reassembles them piece by piece. \nMaking her highly anticipated Australian debut\, Japan’s Yukie Sato is the songbird who refuses to be defined or caged. Be transfixed as the international soprano takes flight through Handel’s most cherished arias. Revel in the Japanese-born\, Swiss-educated diva’s technical and innate musicality and natural charisma perfectly befitting of Handel’s distinctly Germanic approach to Italian style. \nA vocal icon that cannot be dulled\, prepare for Sato to weave a vivid tapestry that will engulf and envelope you entirely. That is her power\, wielded like a burning sword. In a rare opportunity to experience the soprano outside of Japan\, it’s your choice to shy from her brightness or surrender to her flame as she graces us for this brief but epic moment in time\, and then she is gone. \nCatch her while you can! \n\nThursday 12\, Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 September 2024 \n\nElisabeth Murdoch Hall\n\nDuration: 2 hours (incl. interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Premium $196\nA reserve $175 ($109 Concession)\nB reserve $127 ($79 Concession)\nC reserve $95 ($59 Concession)\nD reserve $60\nE reserve $30 \nUnder 40\nA – D reserve $40 \nSenior\nA reserve $157*\nB reserve $114* \nStudent\nA – E reserve $20 \nApplicable 5pm Sunday matinee concerts only. *

SUMMARY:Mostly Mozart – Magnificent Minor
DESCRIPTION:Experience the transcendent power of two musical titans on full display.\nIn this mid-winter Mostly Mozart\, violinists Jakub Jakowicz and Sophie Rowell join musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music for a morning of 18th-century masterworks. \nJourneying back to the heart of the Baroque era with J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins\, the overlapping\, intertwining dialogue between the two soloists and the ensemble showcases the glory of the era. With Polish-born Jakub Jakowicz’ career of chamber music artistry and one of Australia’s most-treasured musicians\, Sophie Rowell\, at the helm\, Bach’s combination of rhythmic power and sustained songfulness leaps across centuries to bring delight to a troubled world. \nWritten in a blaze of inspiration in the summer of 1788\, Mozart’s Symphony No.40 defies the descriptors of ‘powerful’ and ‘dramatic’. With the fiery urgency of the opening\, the graceful serenity of the second movement\, and finally\, the spirited finale\, Mozart’s emotional rollercoaster of melodies showcases the energetic power of the ANAM Orchestra. \nMorning Tea: Join us for coffee plus sweet and savory treats from 10am in the ground floor foyer. \nFriday 9 August 2024 11am\nDuration: 1 hour 15 mins (no interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \nMelbourne Recital Centre\, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nTICKETS: Standard $49 ($42 Concession)

SUMMARY:Musica Viva Australia – The Choir of King's College\, Cambridge
DESCRIPTION:Top hats and heavenly voices. \nEvery year on Christmas Eve\, millions of listeners around the world tune in to hear The Choir of King’s College\, Cambridge celebrate the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in a glorious display of the British choral tradition. Now this unique and precious sound\, the product of generations of voices and centuries of music\, returns to Australia for a  featuring some of their best-loved repertoire.  \nAlongside traditional hymns and soaring anthems\, the Choir will perform Stravinsky’s Mass for choir and double wind quintet\, his searing and deeply personal search for meaning\, and a touchstone of the choral repertoire. \nIt’s not all top hats and heavenly voices: just as boys grow up and voices change\, the Choir’s work changes across the generations. Which is why Daniel Hyde\, Director since 2019\, asked us what the Choir of King’s College\, Cambridge might bring to Australia\, and what they might learn from us. Integral to their performance is a new work commissioned by Australian composer Damian Barbeler\, working with a text by Judith Nangala Crispin (a descendent of the Bpangerang people)\, which grapples with threads of history to come up with something new and compelling.  \nMeet the Artists \nFollowing the concert\, please join The Choir of King’s College\, Cambridge for a post-concert discussion onstage in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall. \nTuesday 23 July 2024 7pm \nMelbourne Recital Centre\, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nDuration: 1 hour 45 mins (incl. interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \nTickets: Premium $141 ($128 Concession); A reserve $115 ($102 Concession); B reserve $87 ($76 Concession); C reserve $62 ($55 Concession)\nUnder 40 $40
