SUMMARY:Melbourne Recital Centre: Leonkoro Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Lion-hearted chamber revelation.\nBerlin’s Leonkoro Quartet arrives with the fearless intensity their Esperanto name promises – ‘lion-heart’ – and a reputation that has electrified the international chamber music world since their 2019 formation. Fresh from claiming top prizes at Wigmore Hall and earning Concertgebouw’s Young Talent Award\, these four musicians deliver performances that crackle with artistic risk-taking and profound musical intelligence. \nTheir Melbourne debut traces an emotional arc across three centuries of human expression. Henriëtte Bosmans’ String Quartet unveils the forgotten voice of a Dutch composer whose work deserves rediscovery\, while Felix Mendelssohn’s Quartet sparkles with youthful exuberance and sophisticated craftsmanship. The evening culminates with Franz Schubert’s towering ‘Death and the Maiden’ – a work that transforms life’s deepest fears into transcendent beauty. \nThroughout this one-night-only performance\, the weight of daily existence lifts\, replaced by something far more essential; the connection between composer\, performer\, and listener that has sustained humanity for centuries.  \nCoached by chamber music legends from the Artemis Quartet and Alfred Brendel\, Leonkoro combines interpretive maturity with dynamic stage presence that makes every performance feel contemporary. \nMonday 04 May 2026 – 7:30pm \nDuration: 1 hour 50 mins (incl. interval). Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \nSingle Tickets: Premium $139\, A Reserve $119 ($99 Concession); B Reserve $99 ($79 Concession); C Reserve $79 \nUnder 40s  B & C Reserve $49

SUMMARY:Melbourne Recital Centre & the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Mostly Mozart – Mozart & the Bach sons
DESCRIPTION:When the Bachs met Mozart.\nIn this Monday morning performance\, take a deep dive into the Bach family tree and the families impact on Mozart. Featuring the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Orchestra\, under the direction of violinist Shaun Lee-Chen (Concertmaster\, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra)\, experience a rare treat of a program featuring the Bach sons alongside one of the greats\, Mozart. \nHaving met J.C. Bach at just eight years old\, a young Mozart took inspiration from the youngest of J.S. Bach’s children\, writing his Symphony No.1 shortly after the pair first met in 1764. By the time he completed his Symphony No.31 (‘Paris’)\, written just 14 years later\, Mozart’s melodic gifts had grown beyond that of a ‘wunderkind’ and into one of a confident and brilliant composer. \nBookended between the two Mozart symphonies\, J.C. Bach’s Sinfonia Concertante and C.P.E. Bach’s Symphony in B minor highlight the different paths of compositional style taken by Johann Sebastian’s sons. J.C. gave Mozart his first exposure to the galant style\, while C.P.E. pioneered the emotionally turbulent ‘Sturm und Drang’ movement. Together\, they show how innovation happens: not in isolation\, but in conversation. \nAlongside director\, violinist\, and ANAM Alum\, Shaun Lee-Chen\, the ANAM Orchestra traces this linage\, and spotlights the moment when craftsmanship became something transcendent. \nMorning Tea\nJoin us for a complimentary morning tea of coffee\, tea\, sweet treats and savoury delights from 10am in the ground floor foyer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonday 04 May 2026 – 11:00am \n\n\nDuration: 1 hour (no interval). SUMMARY:Josh Cohen - Radiohead for Solo Piano II
DESCRIPTION:Radiohead reimagined in an audiovisual spectacle.\nMaster of improvisation\, Berlin-based Australian pianist Josh Cohen takes on legendary rock band Radiohead in this live show of remarkably inventive covers from the group’s famous back catalogue – interpretations that have gone viral on YouTube with more than ten million views and counting. \nPerforming against a visual installation custom-built exclusively for Cohen by AV artist Joshua Batty of MindBuffer\, the visuals are performed and improvised in real time\, ensuring every show is a unique experience. \nAlthough fiercely protective of their reputation\, it’s not surprising that Radiohead gave Cohen the green light to release two official songbooks and perform their songs around the world. Audacious in his approach to music and innovative in his playing style that ranges between classical and jazz\, Cohen’s skills are truly dynamic\, instantly elevating these iconic songs to a whole new level. \nContent Warning: Dynamic Lighting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday 15 April 2026 – 7:30pm \n\n\nDuration: 2 hours (incl. interval). SUMMARY:Australian Chamber Orchestra: The Devil's Violin
DESCRIPTION:Virtuoso Ilya Gringolts directs the Australian Chamber Orchestra in a program that pushes the violin to its fiery limits.\nThe devil played the violin for Tartini in a dream. The music was charismatic\, electrifying\, fiendishly difficult and utterly transfixing. Tartini awoke and transcribed the melody\, penning the Devil’s Trill sonata. It can only be played by someone astounding. \nIlya Gringolts is that player\, returning with his dazzling virtuosity and commanding stage presence for his third tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. In the rehearsal room\, Gringolts brings an intellectual curiosity and joy in experimentation\, whether he’s playing Vivaldi or breathing life into new music. On stage\, the result is an assured mastery\, where the most difficult music appears effortless. The Australian Chamber Orchestra is one of his favourite ensembles\, collaborators capable of answering his nuance and creativity with their own curiosity and skill. \nGringolts and the Australian Chamber Orchestra explore their shared passion for authentic interpretations of Italian Baroque music in a sparkling program featuring Geminiani\, Tartini and Vivaldi – where Gringolts will be joined by ACO Principal Violin Satu Vänskä – performed in contrast with contemporary works. Enigmatic Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina’s String Quartet No.2 looks to the harmonies of heaven from an unsettled\, earthbound soul. Renowned Australian composer Paul Stanhope’s Giving Ground is a dramatic answer to Geminiani’s famous Concerto Grosso. \nExperience the violin pushed to its very limits with Ilya Gringolts and the Australian Chamber Orchestra\, in this fiery display from two of the world’s greats. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday 14 March 2026 – 7:30pm\nMonday 16 March 2026 – 7:30pm \n\n\nDuration: 2 hours (incl. interval). SUMMARY:Musica Viva Australia: Piotr Anderszewski
DESCRIPTION:Beethoven\, Brahms and Bach.\nIconoclastic pianist Piotr Anderszewski brings his intelligence\, restless curiosity and joy to piano repertoire from Brahms and Bach. Get ready for a whole new spectrum of nuance and expression from an unconventional hero of the keyboard. \nEveryone agrees: Piotr Anderszewski is no ordinary pianist. While he is famously exacting – he walked out of the Leeds Piano Competition in 1990 because he was unhappy with his playing – he’s also refreshingly open about his struggles with the anxiety and loneliness of performing as a soloist. But once he gets on stage\, Anderszewski brings an intense curiosity and spectacular virtuosity to everything he plays. \nFresh from triumphant performances at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival\, Anderszewski will be giving a series of solo recitals across Australia. This is a rare opportunity to catch a genius at work as he draws unimagined delights and unexpected insights from the keyboard. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday 18 November 2025 – 7:00pm \n\n\nDuration: 1 hour 50 mins (incl. interval). SUMMARY:Musica Viva Australia: Trio Isimsiz
DESCRIPTION:Trio Isimsiz perform piano works by Schubert and Brahms alongside a striking new work from Francisco Coll.\nWhat’s in a name? Trio Isimsiz’s name comes from the Turkish for ‘without name’ or ‘anonymous’. In other words\, for Trio Isimsiz\, it is all about the music. \nPianist Erdem Mısırlıoğlu\, violinist Pablo Hernán Benedí\, and cellist Edvard Pogossian met at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2008. They’ve since toured China and Argentina\, and performed at venues such as Tivoli Concert Hall and Snape Maltings. \nTrio Isimsiz will perform two giants of the piano trio repertoire. Schubert’s Piano Trio No.1 is a chamber work of grand scale\, yet full of intimacy and lightness. Brahms’ Piano Trio is\, in the words of cellist Edvard Pogossian\, ‘the greatest piece of all time… filled with passion\, love\, nostalgia\, and loneliness.’ Tucked between these masterpieces is the Australian premiere of Francisco Coll’s inventive Piano Trio\, hailed as ‘ear-beguiling and starkly inventive’ by The Strad. \nThree outstanding musicians\, three individual voices\, one ensemble. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTuesday 07 October 2025 – 7:00pm \n\n\nDuration: 2 hours (incl. interval).
