SUMMARY:Victoria Welsh Choir: St David’s Day Concert Celebrating Faleiry’s 30 years as Musical Director
DESCRIPTION:The program will be drawn from the rich musical tradition of Wales with hymns in Welsh and English as well as Celtic songs\, all sung in beautiful four-part male harmony. \nThe concert will be conducted by Welsh-born and Welsh-speaking Faleiry Koczkar OAM\, and accompanied by the incomparable Lorna Ogilvie. \nAfter 30 years as Musical Director\, Faleiry will bow out after this huge celebratory concert at Alexander Theatre. All retired choristers and their families\, and all those who have supported the choir over many years\, are invited to be part of what will be a wonderful and emotional farewell. \nMelbourne’s own female group Bhán Tré will again join Vic Welsh for this concert. \n\nSunday 25 February 2024\, 2pm \nAlexander Theatre\, The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts\, Monash University \n\nTICKETS: $25 – $60

SUMMARY:Monash University Choral Society: Considering Matthew Shepard
DESCRIPTION:The Monash University Choral Society (MonUCS) and Forest Collective present Considering Matthew Shepard\, a fusion oratorio inspired by the 1998 murder of a young gay man in Wyoming. Composed by Craig Hella Johnson\, this intensely powerful and intimate work will be brought to life for the first time in Victoria by MonUCS\, a university student-led group\, for the 25th anniversary of Matt’s murder. \nThe three-part fusion oratorio speaks with a fresh and bold voice\, incorporating a variety of musical styles seamlessly woven into a unified whole. Johnson sets a wide range of poetic and soulful texts by poets including Hildegard of Bingen\, Lesléa Newman\, Michael Dennis Browne\, and Rumi.
