SUMMARY:Victorian Opera presents: The Second Hurricane
DESCRIPTION:In a storm-ravaged American town\, a group of high school students offer their help to a nearby county before becoming stranded in the wake of a second hurricane. Through trial and tribulation\, the teenagers must learn to work together if they’re going to survive. \nAaron Copland’s work was originally written for students when it premiered in New York in 1937. Eighty years on\, The Second Hurricane makes its Victorian Opera debut as the company’s youth opera for 2017 as part of our Education Program. It will be performed by a cast of singers aged 15 – 25 together with students from Victorian Opera’s Youth Chorus Ensemble (VOYCE). \nThe opera will be directed by Libby Hill with Angus Grant as musical director. Copland’s youth opera tells an important parable of the reaffirmation of community through surviving the darkness of disaster. \nMusical Director Angus Grant\nDirector Libby Hill\nSet & Costumer Designer Candice MacAllister\nLighting Designer Eduard Ingles Sancho \nVictorian Opera Chamber Orchestra

Respighi’s production was a smash-hit and toured the world. The ageless appeal of this charming chamber opera will be reawakened by the theatrical genius of director Nancy Black (Master Peter’s Puppet Show\, Four Saints in Three Acts) and production designer Joe Blanck. The Sleeping Beauty will feature an ensemble of exciting operatic talent lending voice to stunningly crafted puppets\, as Respighi had intended. \nConductor Phoebe Briggs\nDirector Nancy Black\nPuppet Design & Construction Joe Blanck\nCo-Set Designers Ben Cobham and Joe Blanck\nLighting Designer Phillip Lethlean\nChoreography Michelle Heaven \nArtists include Carlos E.
