DESCRIPTION:Students from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School return to the Melbourne Recital Centre for another triumphant concert.\nOpening with a world premiere commission by Australian Art Orchestra Artistic Director Peter Knight\, Luminous provides a platform for exploration and discovery for an augmented improvisation ensemble. Under the baton of Melbourne-born\, Vienna-based maestro Warrick Stengårds\, Schumann’s glorious Symphony No.3 will resound with the panache and exuberance of the VCASS Symphony Orchestra. \nFollowing the interval\, Stengårds leads a cast of more than 120 musicians and choristers for the world premiere commission Magalu Gaangu | Beginning Here. Composed by Yorta Yorta woman\, and Melbourne-based pioneer and stalwart Deborah Cheetham AO\, VCASS students breathe life into Cheetham’s text sung in the beautiful local Boon Wurrung language. DESCRIPTION:Young soloists and ensembles from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School present a program exploring interactions between young people and technology featuring the world premiere of Stefan Cassomenos’ Terms and Conditions.\nCassomenos compiles text from consumed sources such as memes and Instagram posts to shine a spotlight on the inherent contradictions facing the youth of today\, while Bates implants electronica and improvisation into an orchestral score. \nThe program also features Schnittke’s modern take on two master composers with Moz-Art à la Haydn for String Orchestra and Dvorak’s radiant and majestic Bohemian flavoured 8th Symphony\, conducted by the revered Fabian Russell.
