Composed by the all-Australian team of Jonathon\, Dr Kathleen McGuire and Andy Payne\, it stars world-renowned soprano Rosamund Illing backed by the beautiful harmonies of THECHO!R\,  the Choir of Hard Knocks and the Sing The World choir. \nIt will be followed by the world premiere of TATTOO\, an amazing new work written by the inspirational Choir of Hard Knocks in collaboration with the incomparable Warren Wills. This multi-award-winning composer and performer has been commissioned by people and organisations as diverse as Woody Allen and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Like Jonathon\, His work has convinced him that music has more power than people realise. “Over the ages it has supported wars\, brought peace\, promoted violence and soothed troubled souls. I believe music is underused as a powerful force. Used positively\, it is utterly transforming” he says. DESCRIPTION:The Melbourne International Singers Festival is thrilled to present the internationally acclaimed\, award winning The Song Company with Artistic Director\, Antony Pitts\, at MISF for the first time\, in “True Love Story” on Friday 8 June at Deakin Edge. \nThe True Story of Guillaume De Machaut & Peronnelle D’Armentieres\nThe Song Company\nAustralia’s Premier Vocal Ensemble \nAn Autobiographical mediaeval French Romance in a time of War and Plague as told by Poet and Composer Guillaume De Machaut \nAbout True Love Story\nAgainst the backdrop of the Hundred Years’ War and the Black Death this “true” love story from the Middle Ages charts the passionate affair between the 14th century’s most celebrated poet and composer\, Guillaume de Machaut\, and his super-fan\, a beautiful noblewoman called Péronnelle d’Armentières. Their poetry\, their letters\, and Machaut’s extraordinary music combine to produce a unique semi-staged multi-sensory experience. \nAbout The Song Company \nSince the dawn of history\, the human voice and the act of singing have been intrinsically linked with storytelling and the acquisition of culture. The Song Company belongs to a land whose first peoples used songlines and vocal music to pass knowledge and culture from generation to generation\, and is proud to continue that tradition\, in a unique way\, sharing music from across western and non-western art traditions.
