SUMMARY:Christmas with the National Boys Choir of Australia
DESCRIPTION:The National Boys Choir of Australia will be celebrating Christmas at Hamer Hall on Saturday\, December 22 2018 with an illustrious programme featuring George Frideric Handel’s Eternal Source of Light Divine (Birthday Ode for Queen Anne 1713); the Choir’s major work this year. Melburnians will be familiar with this major work as the opening aria was performed at the recent wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex\, as the bride Meghan Markle walked down the aisle. \nThe National Boys Choir of Australia will be welcoming to the stage its 180-voice Boys and Men’s Choir with orchestra plus four of Australia’s premier soloists for the major work: Jacqueline Porter (Soprano)\, Max Riebl (Countertenor)\, Austin Haynes (Countertenor) and Jeremy Kleeman (Bass-Baritone). Austin is one of the NBCA’s Old Boys\, having sung and soloed with the Choir from 2008 to 2014. He was Co-captain in 2014. \nThe second half of the program will include Christmas favourites such as Ding dong! Merrily on High\, O Come All Ye Faithful\, Good King Wenceslas and God Rest You Merry\, Gentlemen. \nThis is a special Christmas occasion for the National Boys Choir of Australia as it will be the last time the Choir performs under the baton of Artistic Director Mr Peter Casey. Mr Casey has been an instrumental member of the Choir since starting his classical music career as a chorister at the age of seven. Mr Peter Casey’s retirement sees the conclusion of the Casey family’s association with the Choir. “This year’s Christmas Concert will be my last after clocking up 51 in succession since joining the Choir.” \nMr Casey’s father\, Mr Kevin Casey\, founded the Choir in his Melbourne lounge-room in 1964. Since then\, the National Boys Choir of Australia has become one of the oldest children’s choirs in the country and celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2014. In its history\, the Choir has performed at venues across Australia and abroad including the United Kingdom\, France\, Italy\, Germany\, Austria\, Japan\, New Zealand\, the United States\, Taiwan\, the Philippines\, Hong Kong and China. \nThe National Boys Choir of Australia also featured in Australia’s most successful advertising campaign 20 years ago alongside the Australian Girls’ Choir\, Qantas’ I Still Call Australia Home television advertisements. The National Boys Choir of Australia’s recent tour of Tasmania saw our Tour Choir perform for the Governor of Tasmania\, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC\, who said of the Ballroom recital performance: “Spine-tingling.” One of the selected choristers is the great\, great grandson of Tasmania co- Governor Lieutenant Edward Lord\, RM in 1810.

SUMMARY:Audition for the National Boys Choir of Australia
DESCRIPTION:The National Boys Choir of Australia will be auditioning boys in grades 1 and 2 for its Term 1\, 2019 intake. Auditions are being held on the Choir’s official Audition Day on Saturday\, June 16 2018 by appointment. \nRecognised for over 50 years\, the National Boys Choir of Australia is a not for profit organisation that has performed extensively both nationally and internationally\, regularly with the Melbourne Symphony\, Opera Australia\, in the acclaimed Qantas ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ advertisements and at Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight in Melbourne. Current choristers performing in the National Boys Choir of Australia also reap the intrinsic benefits of being part of the choir. \nRecently\, a report by CNBC.com revealed that singing in a choir could be the ‘new exercise’ as presented in a new book by behavioural science author Daniel H. Pink. In his book\, Pink argues that “choral singing calms the heart and boosts endorphin levels. It improves lung function. It increases pain thresholds and reduces the need for pain medication.” \nSome of the National Boys Choir of Australia’s past choristers include Principal Conductor for Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Nicholas Carter\, Mannheim-based opera singer Christopher Diffey-Wilson\, Australian tour manager\, record producer and studio engineer Nikita Miltiadou and international award-winning ballroom dancer Nathan Ryan. \nJune 16 will provide boys in Melbourne the opportunity to audition for the National Boys Choir of Australia\, inviting families to be part of this established and esteemed choral community. \nAuditions will be held at the National Boys Choir of Australia office and studios at 3/9 Pilgrim Court\, Ringwood 3134 Victoria on Saturday 16 June. SUMMARY:Celebrate Christmas with the National Boys Choir of Australia
DESCRIPTION:The National Boys Choir of Australia\, perhaps recognised by most Australians from the iconic Qantas television\ncommercials\, will be performing its annual Christmas Concert at Hamer Hall\, Arts Centre Melbourne on Sunday\, 17\nDecember 2017. The concert will be based on the Missa Criolla\, composed by Ariel Ramírez in 1963; channelling\nthe rhythms and melodies of his native Argentina. \nThe National Boys Choir of Australia will celebrate Christmas with a performance of Missa Criolla\, featuring soloist\nDavid Rogers-Smith (Tenor) and a 180 voice Boys and Men’s Choir accompanied by traditional instruments. The\nprogramme will also include Christmas favourites such as Ding dong! Merrily on High\, O Come All Ye Faithful\,\n Angels Carol and Jingle Bells accompanied by a professional orchestra. \nCoincidently\, the National Boys Choir of Australia filmed in Patagonia (of Ramirez’s home country of Argentina)\nback in May 1998 for the first round of Qantas’ iconic television commercials. Says Artistic Director Mr Peter Casey\nwhen deciding to present the Missa Criolla: “this programme allows the National Boys Choir of Australia the\nopportunity to present a festive programme outside the European realm of traditional Christmas works.” \nThe Choir is one of the oldest children’s choirs in the country\, having celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2014. It\nwas founded by Kevin Casey (the present Co-Artistic Director’s father) in Melbourne in 1964. The Choir has toured internationally on sixteen occasions over its fifty year history with destinations including the United Kingdom\,\nFrance\, Italy\, Germany\, Austria\, Japan\, New Zealand\, the United States\, Taiwan\, the Philippines\, Hong Kong and\nChina\, giving performances in venues ranging from Disneyland in three countries to St Peter’s in Rome. Locally\,\nthe Choir has toured around Australia; most recently completing a successful tour of regional Victoria and New\nSouth Wales in the September school holidays this year. \nChoristers have been involved in major events such as the Sydney Olympics\, the Melbourne Commonwealth\nGames\, The Three Tenors Tour\, André Rieu’s Australian tour and Carols by Candlelight from the Myer Music Bowl\nfor more than two decades. The Choir also regularly performs with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Opera\nAustralia.

SUMMARY:National Boys Choir of Australia in Concert
DESCRIPTION:The National Boys Choir of Australia\, established in 1964\, is one of Australia’s finest children’s choirs. Performed by a 100 voice choir\, this concert’s repertoire will include Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art with orchestra and Britten’s Three Two Part Songs. \nThe feature work will be the children’s opera All the King’s Men by English composer Richard Rodney Bennett (accompanied by orchestra). All the King’s Men is set in England in 1643\, with King Charles attempting to take the city of Gloucester during the Civil War. The townsfolk of Gloucester manage to foil attempts to take the city. It is from this historical event that the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty possibly arose\, with the original ‘Humpty’ being a large war machine that rolled into the river and broke after failing to take hold as a temporary bridge. Humpty Dumpty’s story evolved over time from a river disaster to a wall disaster\, but all the king’s horses and men remained as part of the legend.
