SUMMARY:Montsalvat Arts Festival 2021
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of our active artist community\, Montsalvat opens our gates to an exciting day of open studios\, workshops and a compelling line-up of music and performances. Experience four performances within Montsalvat’s magical heritage grounds\, most notably with the backdrop of the impressive Great Hall. \nMontsalvat Arts Festival 2021 brings together unique musical artists from across Melbourne\, showcasing their diverse talents\, ranging from percussive rhythms\, chamber music\, songwriting\, spoken word\, folk-pop and contemporary sound. \nArrive in the morning to see the delightful Callisto Strings perform as you enter through the Barn Gallery. Unwind and relax into the afternoon and have a dance to our outdoor music line-up featuring The Experience\, STAV. and Stefanía at the Great Hall Music Stage. More details about our music line-up below. \nCallisto Strings: An ensemble dedicated to performing chamber music in and around their hometown of Melbourne. Callisto Strings comprise of graduates from Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Melbourne. Callisto Strings feel at home performing a Baroque minuet\, to a swinging Bossa Nova or an 80’s power ballad.  \nStefanía Serna: A Melbourne-based singer/songwriter. Drawing on the traditional Bolero style of her hometown Cali in Colombia\, she uses urban production to create a fresh\, contemporary sound. Stefania has had success in her 16-year career as a singer with other artists\, and has recently made the transition to writing and recording her own music. \nStav Shaul: A mesmerising Israeli-Australian folk-pop artist\, who blurs the lines between singing and spoken word in a mostly Australian accent and unschooled Hebrew. Introspective and playful\, her persuasive melodies explore migration\, her identity across generations and womanhood. In 2018\, STAV. was awarded the Folk Alliance Australian ‘Young Artist of the Year’. \nThe Experience: A unique sound which brings together 5 future legendary musicians heading into the prime of their careers. The Experience’s live shows encourage audiences to dance to the percussive rhythms while shaking off the memories of a challenging year. Their melodies create a thought-provoking encounter as you sway through the soundtrack of your unique experience. \nExplore our event website for ticketing information and further details of our program. Montsalvat will present a COVID-safe program appropriate for the current environment at the time of the festival. \nMontsalvat acknowledges the Wurundjeri people\, the traditional owners of the land upon which Montsalvat stands.

SUMMARY:Inspiration Tango
DESCRIPTION:The Firebird Trio presents Inspiration Tango!  This concert brings together nearly a century of music inspired by the tango – from the 3 minute dances designed for the sultry milongas of Buenos Aires to the concert pieces based around the Four Seasons by tango composer and bandoneon virtuoso Astor Piazzolla. Featuring tango music by Gardel\, Golijov\, Albeniz\, Ginastera and Kats-chernin\, Firebird Trio pianist and composer\, Benjamin Martin contributes a new evocative  Australian tango for the trio. \nFirebird Trio performers + dancers: Curt Thompson – violin\nJosephine Vains – cello\nBenjamin Martin – cello\nJarny Choi and Teresa Lavers – Argentine Tango dancers \nArgentine Tango dancers Jarny Choi and Teresa Lavers have been at the forefront of the Melbourne social tango scene for decades and share a connection borne of years of dancing and teaching in Australia and overseas. Jarny Choi says “Argentine Tango is based on the very simple principal of two people connecting to each other through tango music\, much like the conversation of good chamber music.” \nFirebird Trio – like its mythical counterpart which shone magically through the darkness – sheds light on music from all epochs. Founded in 2010\, Firebird Trio has performed nationwide to critical acclaim\, with a vibrancy of imagination that echoes its name. Described by The Australian as “an ensemble of immense energy and focus”\, in 2013 Firebird Trio continues to present a unique and thought-provoking concert experience. Thinking outside the box\, Firebird Trio performances reflect the energy\, colour and splendour of the Firebird\, taking their name from Stravinsky’s iconic ballet suite.

SUMMARY:Concilium musicum Wien
DESCRIPTION:Montsalvat\, in association with the Austrian Embassy Canberra and the Woodend Winter Arts Festival\, is proud to host the Concilium musicum Wien as part of their 2019 Australian tour! \nThe ensemble Concilium musicum Wien was founded in 1982 by Paul and Christoph Angerer with the aim to perform music of the 18th century in the manner in which it was performed in its time. Over the course of its existence the ensemble’s repertoire has expanded in scope and range\, reaching from baroque music to dance music of the 19th century. In the past years the Concilium musicum Wien has performed over 3200 times in over 700 cities: from L’Aquila to Zurich\, from Bayeux to Xian. In Vienna the Concilium musicum Wien has performed at over 56 different venues. They have played more than 660 works by 290 different composers\, including 140 works by Joseph Haydn\, 57 by Johann Michael Haydn and 160 by Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. \nBarn Gallery\, Sunday June 9\, 2pm-3pm\nPre and post concert cash bar will be open 45minutes before and after this event. CASH and EFT available. \nTickets:\nAdult: $35\nConcession: $25\nBookings through Trybooking here\n*Concession rates apply to those with a valid student card\, health care card\, seniors health care card or pension card.
