SUMMARY:Jayson Gillham – Bach & Chopin
DESCRIPTION:One of the finest players of his generation.\nCelebrated London-based Australian pianist\, Jayson Gillham is known for his bright toned clarity and appealing warmth. Recognised as one of the finest players of his generation\, Gillham takes to the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall stage to perform works by Bach and Chopin. \nThe selected repertoire was inspired by his read-through of Bach partitas and Chopin waltzes in early 2020. Gillham found himself drawn to the lilt of the dance\, calling to mind the gathering of people in good spirit; it is this image that prompted the young virtuoso to return to Australian stages with his two faithful musical companions. Gillham’s relentless elegance and Romantic spirit will hold him in good stead for this unmissable performance. \nProgram \nJohann Sebastian Bach – arr. Egon Petri; Cantata Sheep May Safely Graze\, BWV208 \nJohann Sebastian Bach; Partita No.1 in B-flat BWV 825 \nJohann Sebastian Bach – arr. Ferruccio Busoni; Violin Partita No.2 in D minor\, BWV 1004 \nFrédéric Chopin \nÉtudes\, Op.25\nNo.1 in A-flat ‘Aeolian Harp’\nNo.7 in C-sharp minor ‘Cello’ \nWaltzes\, Op.34 \nNocturnes\, Op.55\n2. Lento sostenuto in E-flat \nPolonaise in A-flat\, Op.53 ‘Heroic’ \n\nMonday 6 June 2022 7.30pm\, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nDuration: 1 hour 30 mins (no interval) \n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\nStandard $79 ($59 Concession) \nExperience this concert online with Australian Digital Concert Hall

SUMMARY:Flinders Quartet: A Life's Work
DESCRIPTION:A program with common threads\, linking lives that are centuries apart.\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\nClara Schumann 3 Preludes and Fugues\, Op.16 \nMelody Eötvös Hope. Fear. Anything \nMargaret Sutherland String Quartet No.2\, ‘Discussion’ \nKaty Abbott Kvasnica Splitting the Ambivalence \nAbout the artists\nFlinders Quartet has garnered a reputation as one of Australia’s most loved chamber music ensembles. A quartet for the 21st century and a highly respected force in Australian chamber music\, their musical skill and maturity has continued to flourish over more than two decades of performing together. \nAbout the concert\nTheir performance in Primrose Potter Salon presents a program with common threads\, linking lives that are centuries apart. A celebration of the discovery of artistry\, exploring three extraordinary artists – Margaret Sutherland\, Camille Claudel and Clara Schumann. \nKaty Abbott has used Sutherland’s own words to create a song cycle\, allowing the quartet delve into her many obstacles and triumphs. Sutherland’s 2nd string quartet Discussion is gloriously jovial and fun\, with her signature harmonic complexity and sharp wit. \nCamille Claudel is best known as Rodin’s muse\, but she was an outstanding sculptor in her own right. Using Claudel’s own words (in French)\, Melody Eötvös is creating a song cycle connecting us to a story of unrecognised creative genius. \nClara Schumann’s story is perhaps the best known of the three women. A Romantic composer who sadly never wrote a string quartet. Schumann’s 19th-century Op.16 Preludes and Fugues lend themselves perfectly to string quartet; Jessica Wells’ arrangement is a welcome addition to the canon \n\nMonday 30 May 2022 11am & 6pm\, Melbourne Recital Centre – Primrose Potter Salon \nDuration: 1 hour (no interval) \n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\nStandard $40 ($29 Concession) \n2 Show Packages available\nStandard $68 (Concession $50)
