SUMMARY:The Parlour – Women's Voices
DESCRIPTION:A uniquely moving experience in celebration of women.\nAbout the artists\nThe Parlour focuses on the sung storytelling of Art Song and ballad\, often spinning a cabaret-like narrative to bring the program together as a collection. Since their inception\, unearthing the intentions behind Art Song compositions and exposing the people and events that inspired them has been part of the journey. \nJane Magão soprano\nAlexandra Mathew mezzo soprano\nKaren Van Spall mezzo soprano\nGeorgina Lewis piano\nCoady Green piano \nProgram\nMargaret Sutherland Six Songs: Settings of Poems by Judith Wright \nLinda Kouvaras Winter Came Early \nAbout the concert\nInterested in investigating the people hidden in footnotes of music history\, The Parlour seeks to tell the stories of those who are too often ignored and forgotten. Women were both creators and enablers of art\, and their stories forge a window into the intimate machinations of creative life whether that be first-hand or through observation. \nTheir performance in Primrose Potter Salon will address the stark gender imbalance in art by celebrating the compositions of Australian women and telling many forgotten stories of women in what will be a uniquely moving experience. \n\nTuesday 12 July 2022 6pm; Primrose Potter Salon Duration: 1 hour (no interval) \n\n\nTICKETS Standard $37 ($30 Concession)

SUMMARY:Greg Dikmans & David Macfarlane – Flute and Harpsichord
DESCRIPTION:Two of Australia’s most respected interpreters of Baroque music.\nProgram\nFrançois Couperin\nConcert No.8 dans le goût Théatral \nGeorg Philipp Telemann\nFantasia No.7 in D\, TWV 40:8\nFantasia No.3 in B minor\, TWV 40:4 \nFrançois Couperin\nPassacaille\, No.9 from the Second Livre\, 8eme Ordre\nSecond livre de pièces de clavin\, huiteme ordre\, 9. Passacaille \nJohann Sebastian Bach\nSonata in B minor for flute and harpsichord\, BWV1030 \nAbout the artists\nTwo of Australia’s most respected interpreters of Baroque music will come together to explore a rich 18th century repertoire. Greg Dikmans is an internationally recognised performer of 18th century flutes and a practitioner of historical performance practices. David Macfarlane is an organist and harpsichordist whose playing style has received praise both in Australia and throughout Europe. \nAbout the concert\nTheir performance in Primrose Potter Salon presents Bach’s masterpiece for flute and obligato harpsichord\, the Sonata in B minor BWV 1030. The two instruments are treated as equal partners with seamlessly woven interplay providing a trio sonata texture. \nThe serene second movement makes full use of the lyricism of the flute. A fast-paced Presto opens with imitative entries before expanding into a driven\, rhythmically propulsive finale. A rare opportunity to hear one of Bach’s greatest works. Paired to this is the delightful Concert No. 8 in G major by François Couperin. An unambiguously charming piece. \nFinishing with the opportunity to revel in the baroque flute as a solo instrument showcased by two Telemann Fantasias\, alongside two Polonaises by the brilliantly gifted son of Bach\, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach\, which allow the harpsichord to display its gallant qualities. \nBooking Information\n\n\nFriday 22 April 2022 6pm \n\nPrimrose Potter Salon\n\nDuration: 1 hour (no interval) \n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\nStandard $25 ($20 Concession)

SUMMARY:Mostly Mozart – Augmented Mozart & Fiery Boccherini
DESCRIPTION:Australian National Academy Of Music Ensemble (ANAM)\nTimo-Veikko Valve cello\, director \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart\nString Quartet in D minor\, K.421 – arr. for strings Valve \nLuigi Boccherini\nSymphony in D minor\, Op.12 No.4 (G. 506) ‘La Casa Del Diavolo’ \nAbout the concert\nTimo-Veikko Valve performs with and directs musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in a program of augmented Mozart and fiery Boccherini as part of our Mostly Mozart series. \nBeginning with Mozart’s String Quartet No.15\, the piece elucidates the chromatic tendencies and hidden beauties that his compositions have endured. Finishing with what is undoubtedly Boccherini’s best-known composition\, Symphony No.4 in D minor is a piece of charm and refinement. A performance of epic proportion\, the sheer scale of musicality will stun and delight. \n‘I’ve always imagined that the drama and passion of Mozart’s string quartet K421 would benefit from a larger format. The music is incredibly operatic – it almost demands more than four characters to play it out. I can’t wait to reveal this new arrangement for a large ensemble in our Mostly Mozart concert in the beautiful Elisabeth Murdoch Hall!’ Timo-Veikko Valve \nAbout the artists\nPrincipal cello of the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) Timo-Veikko Valve is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation\, performing as a soloist\, chamber musician and orchestral leader on both modern and period instruments. The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) is dedicated to training exceptional young musicians\, creating alumni that work around the world.
