SUMMARY:ELISION – Ghosts Making Form
DESCRIPTION:Prodigious virtuosity\, strange insatiable vitality…turns it to eleven.\nThese performances bring to the stage new work from composers Liza Lim\, Victor Arul\, Cat Hope\, Einar Torfi Einarsson and Hakan Ulus. Written specifically for the musicians of ELISION their sonorities glitter\, constantly transform and shift\, embrace the ferocious and the magic of quiet stillness in equal measure. They explore the unusual\, bringing instruments together in unexpected ways demonstrating the strength and continuing evolution of contemporary music. \nVirtuoso clarinettist Carl Rosman returns to Australia to once again bring his rare brand of formidable performance. He joins an equally remarkable cohort of soloists\, Peter Neville and Freya Schack-Arnott. These performances herald a dramatic start to the 40th year of activity for ELISION\, a year which sees them play in their home town of Melbourne\, Berlin\, Hannover\, Gothenburg\, Den Haag and Sydney. \n\n\n\n\n\nArtists \nPaula Rae flute\nNiamh Dell oboe\nCarl Rosman clarinets\nRyan Williams recorders\nTristram Williams trumpets\nAditya Bhat percussion\nPeter Neville percussion\nAlexander Waite piano\nMarshall McGuire harp\nFreya Schack-Arnott violoncello\nRohan Dasika contrabass\nAlistair McLean sound engineer\nDaryl Buckley artistic director ELISION \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram \nPart one \nLiza Lim\nGhosts make form (2024) for violoncello and piano\nMing Qi (2000) for oboe and percussion \nEinar Torfi Einarsson\nZone of proximity: (and the weakly interacting particles) (2023) for recorder/violoncello (World Premiere) \nVictor Arul \nFelted Ether (2023) for oboe\, clarinet\, trumpet and piano \nPart two \nLiza Lim\nMagnificat (2025) for solo percussion (World Premiere) \nJohn Rodgers\nAmor (1999) for flute and oboe \nMilica Djordjević\nTreperenje\, studija I (2023) for solo contrabass clarinet 8’ \nCat Hope\nGoddess (2025) for harp\, tam-tam\, contrabass \nSpecial event  \nAaron Cassidy\n27. SUMMARY:ELISION Ensemble AXIS MUNDI
DESCRIPTION:AXIS MUNDI: spectacular sonic imaginations.\nELISION presents a major concert of new music followed by a special late night event delivering a second version of Bryn Harrison’s Double Laybrinth after Richard Dunn. This unique and fragile realisation involves seven instrumentalists\, and the magic of the cembalom! Hypnotic\, gentle swirling lines of sound infuse rich timbre and patterns. \nLiza Lim’s Axis Mundi understands the bassoon as a singing tree with the breath of the musician travelling hidden pathways through the knotted grain of the instrument. Breath and the movement of air informs much of this program; from Julio Estrada to the eruptive and commanding visceral Ciacco of John Rodgers. \nThis concert experience features two parts: \n7pm – 8.30pm: Axis Mundi\n9pm – 9.30pm: Special Post-Concert Show \nFriday 18 July 2025 – 7:00pm \nDuration: 2 hours 30 mins (incl. interval & post-concert show).
