SUMMARY:Duo Eclettico & Helen Morse – A Trillion Tiny Awakenings
DESCRIPTION:Duo Eclettico and iconic Australian actor Helen Morse present three groundbreaking works for classical saxophone and piano.\nAward-winning Duo Eclettico returns to the stage to explore the wealth of repertoire available for their distinct combination of instruments–saxophone and piano. Passionate about unearthing complex\, vibrant repertoire and commissioning new works\, particularly from local artists\, the pair will perform three groundbreaking works in this intimate Salon experience. \nJoined by the iconic Australian actor Helen Morse\, witness the world premiere of Linda Kouvaras’ Harwood Poems\, an extraordinary composition for saxophone\, piano\, and narrator. A poignant celebration of revered Australian poet Gwen Harwood\, this piece beautifully captures the striking paradoxes of the human experience with stark intimacy. Composed especially for Duo Eclettico and Helen Morse\, this concert is perfectly paired with two major works. From Ned Rorem’s vividly evocative seven waltzes in Picnic on the Marne to Cheryl Durongpisitkul’s moving homage to the late Australian poet and activist\, Candy Royalle\, in A Trillion Tiny Awakenings\, this thought-provoking exploration of powerful storytelling for saxophone\, piano\, and narrator is not to be missed. \n\nSaturday 2 November 2024 7pm \n\nPrimrose Potter Salon\n\nDuration: 1 hour (no interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $37 ($30 Concession)

SUMMARY:Duo Eclettico: Magic
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the magical\, the ethereal\, the demonic and the ‘other’.\nDuo Eclettico’s performance in the Primrose Potter Salon celebrates the magical\, the ethereal\, the demonic\, and the ‘other’\, with works from South Africa and Australia. Hendrik Hofmeyr\, arguably South Africa’s most celebrated living composer\, is represented with Necromancer\, a virtuosic yet beautifully colourful work evoking the magic of a necromancer\, in Hofmeyr’s writing a symbol for LGBTIQ+ sexuality and attempted repression of this by traditional conservative forces. \nPaired with Ross Edwards’ Full Moon Dances\, in a stunning arrangement for saxophone\, piano and percussion by Peter Neville. Edwards depicts the universal Moon Goddess incarnate\, source of plant life and protector of the environment\, performing a series of ritual healing ceremonies. \nThe recital culminates in the world premiere of Caerwen Martin’s major new work for soprano saxophone and piano\, The Witch of Kings Cross\, about a fascinating real-life figure – Rosaleen Norton – a poet\, writer\, artist\, philosopher and ‘witch’\, one of the most unique artists in Australia from the 1940s and 50s\, whose work was banned and prohibited by the Australian government for its overt sexuality and focus on non-traditional beliefs. A revolutionary figure\, Norton was arrested multiple times\, her books and artwork publicly burned. She became known as ‘The Witch of Kings Cross’ and is a potent example of an artist whose individuality of spirit was consistently repressed by traditional forces in the conservative Australia of the 1940s and 50s. \nCaerwen Martin’s new work\, specifically composed for Duo Eclettico and this concert\, is in several parts. One section acts as a descriptive musical depiction of Norton’s life and work. The other acts as a healing ‘spell’ for Norton\, but also invites the audience to be immersed in this ritual and hopefully find aspects that can be healing for each listener themselves. \n\nTuesday 31 October 2023\, 6pm;    MRC\,  Primrose Potter Salon \nDuration: 1 hour (no interval) Please note\, running times are approximate and subject to change. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $37 ($30 Concession)

SUMMARY:Duo Eclettico – The Bachs and Princess Anna Amalia
DESCRIPTION:Reimagined masterpieces from J.S. Bach\, J.C. Bach\, C.P.E. Bach and Princess Anna Amalia.\nAward-winning Duo Eclettico explore the wealth of repertoire available for their unique combination of instruments – saxophone and piano. The pair are passionate about unearthing complex and vibrant repertoire\, as well as commissioning new work\, particularly that of local artists. \nAbout the concert\nTheir performance in Primrose Potter Salon takes major works from J.S. Bach\, J.C. Bach\, C.P.E. Bach and Princess Anna Amalia. Reinventing their virtuosity and lyricism\, Duo Eclettico present the world premiere of these arrangements for saxophone and piano. \nThe daughter of Frederick William I\, Princess Anna Amalia of Prussia was a superb composer and writer and was Carl Philipp Emanuel (CPE) Bach’s first royal patron. She was also the patron of the ‘German Sappho’\, poet Anna Luisa Karsch\, who provided the libretti for several of CPE’s vocal works. Anna Amalia secretly married one of her brother’s soldiers\, and was banished to a convent\, where she continued to write. She preserved a major collection of JS and CPE Bach’s music\, including the Brandenburg Concertos and the B Minor Mass. \nThese works are highly virtuosic and frequently full of beautiful\, vocal inspired aria lines\, making them ideal for saxophone and piano. \n\nWednesday 15 March 2023 6pm; Primrose Potter Salon; Duration: 1 hour (no interval) \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS: Standard $50 ($40 Concession)
