SUMMARY:Byrd: Gradualia - The Four-Part Motets
DESCRIPTION:In honour of William Byrd’s 400th death anniversary this year and his significant contributions to liturgical music\, Chorus Ecclesiae proudly presents a performance of a selection of four-part motets from his mighty Gradualia – a powerful body of work that was a masterful and defiant musical response for persecuted Catholics at the time. \nWilliam Byrd’s Gradualia (1605/07) is one of the most elaborate musical works of the English Renaissance period. His Gradualia is rarely performed as it consists mostly of the Liturgical Propers for for each of the principal feasts of the Roman Church year as well as for the votive Masses of the Blessed Virgin and the Holy Sacrament. \nThe concert will be held on May 14th\, 2023 (Mother’s Day) at St. John’s East Malvern at 2pm\, followed by a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea for attendees after the concert. \nDirector: Shanti Michael\, Soprano: Jesika Clark\, Alto: Emma Warburton\, Tenor: Timothy Daly\, Bass: Benjamin Owens \nTickets: Full price: $35\, Concession: $25\, Under 12: FREE. Tickets may be purchased HERE. \nChorus Ecclesiae Australia is a semi-professional\, not-for-profit choir dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Gregorian Chant and Sacred Polyphony in its liturgical context within the Mass in different churches in Victoria. We sing services once a month and rotate to different parishes\, particularly ones who do not have a full time music program.
