SUMMARY:ARCO: Mendelssohn Scottish and Beethoven Eight | Midsummer Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra\nRachael Beesley Conductor \nWith over 40 musicians on stage\, this symphonic program opens in the magical world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Mendelssohn’s enchanting overture\, full of scampering fairy feet and sparkling strings. It ends in the brooding landscapes of Scotland with Mendelssohn’s ‘Scottish’ Symphony\, inspired by his travels there as a young man – a hugely evocative and dramatic work. In between\, we take a journey of a different kind\, plumbing the depths of the symphony in Beethoven’s Eighth. This is a remarkable work that confounds expectations and surprises at every turn\, yet is full of toe-tapping melodies. \nJoin us for this inspiring program as we celebrate our 10th anniversary. \nFelix Mendelssohn Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, Op.21 (1826)\nLudwig van Beethoven Symphony No.8 in F major\, Op.93 (1812)\nFelix Mendelssohn Symphony No.3 in A minor\, Op.56 Scottish (1843 version)

SUMMARY:Beethoven Septet and Louise Farrenc Nonet
DESCRIPTION:It’s not easy to write for a combination of winds and strings\, to get the balance right and to give every instrument its due. Beethoven did it beautifully\, of course\, in his Septet of 1800\, an early\, charming work that took a popular musical form and made it entirely his own. Fifty years later Louise Farrenc\, an acclaimed pianist and the second-ever female piano professor at the Paris Conservatory\, took up Beethoven’s mantle with her rich\, exquisite Nonet\, a brilliant gem of a work that reinforced her reputation as one of Europe’s leading musical forces. \nLOUISE FARRENC Nonet in E flat major\, Op.38 (1849)\nBEETHOVEN Septet in E flat major\, Op.20 (1800) \nMembers of the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra\nGeorgia Browne | Flute\nTatjana Zimre | Oboe\nNicole van Bruggen | Clarinet\nAnneke Scott | Horn\nLisa Goldberg | Bassoon\nJenna Sherry | Violin\nStephen King | Viola\nDaniel Yeadon | Cello\nRob Nairn | Double Bass
