SUMMARY:Australian Chamber Orchestra: Schubert's Trout
DESCRIPTION:Chamber music has a special magic. It’s where individual brilliance and collective resolve meet and embraced. Following the astounding response to our performances of Schubert’s String Quintet\, we’re now presenting his equally loved Trout Quintet.\nJoining our ACO ensemble is a Finnish pianist and composer Olli Mustonen\, a much-admired ACO collaborator. This program also features the first ACO performance of Olli’s own Piano Quintet\, a piece that overflows with drama and passion. \nFranz Schubert was just 22 and on a walking holiday in the countryside when he wrote his buoyant Trout Quintet. High spirits and an unstoppable stream of melody flow through the music\, sunnily evoking a time of freedom and a place of natural beauty. Schubert’s popular song Die Forelle (The Trout) is heard in the fourth movement\, but its innocence animates the whole. An unusual touch is the use of double bass\, which sets the pianist free to dance brightly across the instrument’s higher registers. \nJoy radiates in Schubert’s beloved masterpiece. Hold your breath\, lean in\, and become one with the music. \n\nSaturday 17 & Monday 19 September 2022 7.30pm; Melbourne Recital Centre\, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nDuration: 1 hour 40 mins (incl. interval) \n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\nPremium $131 ($112 Concession)\nA Reserve $118 ($100 Concession)\nB Reserve $97 ($82 Concession)\nC Reserve $71 ($60 Concession)\nD Reserve $49 ($49 Concession) \nGroup 10+\nPremium $114\nA Reserve $106\nB Reserve $90\nC Reserve $63\nD Reserve $37 \nUnder 35: $35; Student: $25

SUMMARY:Australian Chamber Orchestra: Bach
DESCRIPTION:JS Bach’s Double Violin Concerto is the glowing centrepiece of a Bach family reunion that celebrates this greatest of all musical dynasties.\nIt is justly one of Bach’s most beloved works. It has a Largo of heart-stopping beauty in which the two soloists weave around one another rapturously. The chance to hear Richard Tognetti and Principal Violin Helena Rathbone perform this timeless masterpiece is a gift beyond price. This reunion with JS’s forebears and children explores the vast span of genius comprised in one family\, from ravishing arias to intricate orchestral works. The program closes with his famous son\, Carl Philipp Emanuel\, as our Principal Cello Timo-Veikko Valve performs his virtuosic and vivid Cello Concerto in A major. This is an unmissable concert that reveals why many believe JS Bach to be the greatest\, and most enduring\, composer\, of all time. \nArtists\nRichard Tognetti director & Violin; Anna Dowsley mezzo-soprano; Helena Rathbone violin; Timo-Veikko Valve cello; Erin Helyard harpsichord & fortepiano; Australian Chamber Orchestra \nProgram\nJohann Ludwig Bach Overture – Suite in G \nJohann Sebastian Bach Sonata à 5 in F \nRobert Schumann Six Fugues on B-A-C-H arr. for Strings \nJohann Christian Bach\nMeine Freundin\, du bist schön: Ciaccona ‘Meine Freund is Mein’ \nJohann Sebastian Bach Cantata ‘Widerstehe doch der Sünde’\, BWV54: Aria Widerstehe doch der Sünde’ \nJohann Sebastian Bach Concerto for Two Violins in D minor \nSofia Gubaidulina Reflections on B.A.C.H \nJohann Sebastian Bach Ich habe genug \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto No.12 in A K414 \nJohann Christoph Friedrich Bach Die Amerikanerin: ‘Mein Herz fleucht ihr Entgegen’ \nCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach Cello Concerto in A\, Wq.172 \n\nSaturday 18 & Monday 20 June 2022 7.30pm\, MRC Elisabeth Murdoch Hall \nDuration: 2 hours (incl. interval) \n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\nPremium $171 ($151 Concession)\nA Reserve $161 ($141 Concession)\nB Reserve $141 ($120 Concession)\nC Reserve $100 ($83 Concession)\nD Reserve $59 ($59 Concession) \nGourp 10+\nPremium $129\nA Reserve $121\nB Reserve $106\nC Reserve $75\nD Reserve $45 \nStudent\n$25 \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:ACO: Reflections on Gallipoli
DESCRIPTION:‘You\, the mothers\, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.’ – MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK \nAtatürk’s words\, inscribed on the memorial stone overlooking ANZAC Cove\, Gallipoli\, echo in the heart. So too\, does the music of Frederick Septimus Kelly. Kelly was an Australian-born composer\, living in London when war broke out. He joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve with his friend\, the poet Rupert Brooke. When Brooke fell ill and died on the way to Gallipoli\, Kelly was by his side\, and soon after Brooke’s death Kelly wrote a haunting string serenade in his memory. \nRichard Tognetti\, large-scale theatre specialist\, Nigel Jamieson\, and one of Australia’s greatest storytellers\, Neil Armfield join forces to present this heartfelt exploration of our ANZAC story through music\, spoken text and visual imagery\, where an Australian’s elegy for his friend brushes shoulders with the words of the father of modern Turkey. Set to music in a new work by Carl Vine featuring soprano Taryn Fiebig\, the program also features English works that are evocative of the era\, including Elgar’s Sospiri and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending\, as well as the music of the Ottoman Empire and 20th-century Turkey. \nProgram\nBARTÓK String Quartet No.2: Allegro molto capriccioso\nKELLY Elegy for strings ‘In Memoriam Rupert Brooke’\nSARISÖZEN (arr.
