One of the great operatic masterpieces of the 20th century, Leoš Janácek’s Cunning Little Vixen marvels at the beauty of nature and the process of renewal. This juxtaposition of human and animal life set in an idyllic forest follows the story of Vixen Sharpears: her youth, journey to adulthood, motherhood and death.
In a new production for Victorian Opera, director Stuart Maunder AM is reunited with Tony Award-winning designer Roger Kirk following 2015’s acclaimed Sweeney Todd. Conductor Jack Symonds makes a welcome company debut and leads Jonathan Dove’s chamber orchestration of Janácek’s unique lyrical opera. Cunning Little Vixen is a profound work of genius and a reflection on the cycle of life.
