Victorian Opera continues its exploration of Richard Strauss in this concert of beautiful and deeply thoughtful ‘conversation piece for music’, Capriccio, conducted by the renowned Simone Young AM.
This final operatic masterpiece by Richard Strauss and Clemens Krauss from 1942 tells the story of Countess Madeleine who is being courted by two different men; Flamand the composer and Olivier the poet. Set in 18th century Paris, this lyrical and romantic work explores which is more important for opera – the words or the music – an age-old question about the nature of our artform.
The company is proud to welcome a now legendary Strauss conductor Simone Young and a wonderful cast in a unique collaboration with the Australian National Academy of Music in what will be an operatic highlight for Melbourne.
