Opening with a world premiere commission by Australian Art Orchestra Artistic Director Peter Knight, Luminous provides a platform for exploration and discovery for an augmented improvisation ensemble. Under the baton of Melbourne-born, Vienna-based maestro Warrick Stengårds, Schumann’s glorious Symphony No.3 will resound with the panache and exuberance of the VCASS Symphony Orchestra.
Following the interval, Stengårds leads a cast of more than 120 musicians and choristers for the world premiere commission Magalu Gaangu | Beginning Here. Composed by Yorta Yorta woman, and Melbourne-based pioneer and stalwart Deborah Cheetham AO, VCASS students breathe life into Cheetham’s text sung in the beautiful local Boon Wurrung language. Haydn’s joyous and uplifting Te Deum scored for Chamber Orchestra and Chorus and led by the indefatigable Dermot Tutty, will imbue spring in your step and song in your heart to close the concert.
