Featuring Emma Matthews, Brad Cohen conductor.
A bringing together of great musical entertainment with a look back at one of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s most important early supporters, legendary Australian singer Dame Nellie Melba. Australia’s leading soprano of our day, Emma Matthews, performs showpieces made famous by Dame Nellie while, under Australian maestro Brad Cohen, you’ll hear beautiful orchestral music inspired by Shakespeare, including the miraculous overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream Mendelssohn composed when he was just 16.
The concert will be preceded by a free organ recital at 6.30pm, performed by Doctor Calvin Bowman on the Town Hall organ.
