The Barber of Seville: Opening Night

June 25, 2015 @ 7:30 pm

Melbourne Opera presents Rossini’s hilarious Barber of Seville, one of the most popular and entertaining of operas.
The hilarious tale of an overprotective guardian outwitted by his daughter’s lover with help from the factotum, Figaro, this production has a first rate cast lead by mezzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell.  Baritone Phillip Calcagno features as Figaro the artful Barber, with Herald Sun Aria winner Brenton Spiteri as Count Almaviva and Roger Howell or Ian Cousins as the overprotective guardian Don Bartolo.  David Gould reprises his hilarious scheming Don Basilio and Jodie Debono stars as the maid Berta.

Hugh Halliday directs this superb production, and Greg Hocking conducts the Melbourne Opera Chorus and Orchestra.  It will be sung in English.
