Pianist Danaë Killian gives the world premiere of Lewis Ingham’s Ec(h)o, a five-movement sonic depiction of human influence on the planet both geologically and ideologically. Written for Killian, this large-scale composition responds to environmental degradation by drawing upon climate data, fossil fuel exports, and nuclear detonations, using the piano to explore the traces, or echoes, of human existence in our natural world.
Killian is known for her intense originality and interpretive power in the performance of modern music. The Ecology of Silence and Reverberant Shadows I and II are a pair of solo piano programs, curated and created by Killian while working on Ingham’s Ec(h)o. The first is a brief program without interval in which Ec(h)o is premiered then heard almost immediately again—but differently—the two iterations echoing and reverberating across John Cage’s study in silence 4’33”.
