Seraphim Trio is one of Australia’s most acclaimed chamber music groups, as well as being a lifelong friendship. Formed in Adelaide in 1995, the group has enjoyed an unusually longstanding collaboration, with its current membership dating from 1998.
This program celebrates French composers, featuring a new work to the trio, the second piano trio of Saint-Saëns. Saint-Saëns thought that this work would drive to despair all those unlucky enough to hear it. What he produced is one of the great masterpieces of the piano trio repertoire.
A close family friend to Saint-Saëns was Lili Boulanger, and Seraphim is thrilled to perform her festive song – D’Un Matin De Printemps.
The trio pairs these French gems with a return to their old friend Beethoven, and one of his earliest works, his expressive and innovatory Piano Trio in G major, Op.1, No. 2.
