Speak Percussion shapes the sound of 21st century Australian percussion music through ambitious art projects that redefine the potential of percussion. They engage in world-class, risk-taking and innovative projects and are leaders in experimental and contemporary classical music.
Held in the Primrose Potter Salon, the evening concert showcases works in Post Instrumental Practice: a boundary-breaking field of contemporary percussion music. It platforms four powerful compositional voices from around the globe, including the world premiere of Australia’s Josephine Macken and Australian premieres of works by Cathy Van Eck (NL), Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri (GR) and Andreas E. Frank (DE). It features electronics, bespoke instruments and simple everyday objects – a plant, a hairdryer, a windshield wiper motor.
An enthralling event that pushes the bounds of musical philosophies and unexpected sound worlds.
Please join Speak Percussion for a post-concert panel discussion featuring leading thinkers and music makers to shed further light on the nascent discipline of Post Instrumental Practice.
