Poignant and lyrical, Quartz quartet perform a program of great emotional depth.
Czech composer Bedrich Smetana wrote his string quartet, From My Life in 1876 as an expression of his romantic ideals of a life in music.
Comprising sketches of periods from his life, the work sways between feelings of joy and idealism and wistful reflections of youth to fragile moments of realisation as Smetana accepted his deafness.
Australian composer and soprano Shauna Beesley recently wrote a profoundly moving work based on Russian modernist writer, Anna Akhmatova’s poem Requiem.
Written between 1935 and 1940, Requiem is a lyrical cycle of elegy, lamentation and witness, which she wrote, worked and re-worked in secret, depicting the suffering of the common people under the Stalinist Terror regime.
