Be plunged into a world of opulent Viennese ballrooms, risqué Parisian opera and rustic Bohemian landscapes as the Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra presents Prague, Paris & Vienna.
Johann Strauss’ Overture to the Gypsy Baron fuses the decadence of 19th century Vienna with fiery gypsy drama. Georges Bizet’s Carmen embodies a fascination with the exotic, which captured the European imagination in the late 1800s. Flirtatious and seductive, Carmen is Spain as seen through a Frenchman’s eyes. The concert concludes with the cheerful Symphony No.8 of Antonin Dvorak. Traversing everything from pastorale bird calls to rambunctious Czech folk songs it is laden with familiar tunes and joyous optimism.
