Experience one of the greatest works in the keyboard repertoire – Bach’s Goldberg Variations – in the hands of Erin Helyard, Australia’s most distinguished harpsichordist and Artistic Director of Pinchgut Opera. Originally composed to soothe and enchant, the Goldberg Variations offers a vast musical universe built from a single elegant aria. Across thirty variations, Bach weaves complexity, joy, tenderness, and brilliance into an intricate architectural whole, a testament to the boundless imagination of the Baroque.
Performed on harpsichord, as Bach intended, Helyard’s interpretation reveals the clarity, intimacy, and vitality often lost on modern instruments. Each variation unfolds like a miniature world, alive with wit, colour, and emotion. A rare opportunity to hear this monumental work performed with authenticity, insight, and luminous artistry.
