Napoli

March 12, 2016 @ 7:30 pm

$38

For the first time in over 40 years the Danish ballet “Napoli”, created by August Bournonville in 1842, will be performed for Australian audiences. Melbournians will have the unique opportunity to see Melbourne City Ballet, Australia’s fastest growing dance company, perform this very difficult production at the Darebin Arts Centre for a limited season in March 2016.

“Napoli”, tells the story of two Italian lovers from Naples who are set to marry, when tragically young Teresina is taken by the sea. Her lover, a local fisherman named Genarro, must travel to the blue grotto to battle sea monster Golfo before it’s too late.

Showing off the company’s versatility, Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo’s version of August Bournonville’s classic “Napoli” will exhibit sensational new choreography, strong technique and energetic movement.
Pappalardo’s version of “Napoli” is targeted at all ages, providing audiences with a combination of upbeat scores and an adventurous storyline, designed to please even those who have not previously been to the ballet.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Melbourne City Ballet perform this rare ballet. Tickets are available via Melbourne City Ballet’s website or directly through the Darebin Arts Centre at http://www.darebinartscentre.com.au/Page/page.asp?Page_Id=1095&h=0
