Melbourne Singers of Gospel: Gospel Sings the Blues

November 26, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$27 – $37

Melbourne Singers of Gospel’s 26 November gala performance at the magnificent Deakin Edge, Federation Square brings you 100 voices singing the Blues. This exciting concert follows the recent launch of the choir’s album, Stand Strong, and a win at the 125th Royal South Street Society contest.

Directed by Dr. Darren Wicks, this accomplished choir will lift you with its passion, authentic Gospel vocals, dynamic choreography and elegant presentation. Melbourne Singers of Gospel will be accompanied by the cool jazz-blues sound of The Soul Train. A bar and music follow the evening show.

The choir will bring you a diverse Blues showcase including the blues gospel of You Brought Me from a Mighty Long Way, the jazz-inspired Basin Street Blues, the pop-blues Change the World and Blues Brothers crowd-pleasers.

The Blues evolved from a potent mix of African spirituals, African chants, work songs, field hollers, rural fife and drum music, revivalist hymns, and country dance music in the Mississippi Delta just upriver from New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz.

Tickets for Gospel Sings the Blues are on sale now from trybooking.com/MQTU or Melbourne Singers of Gospel’s website.
