This delightful concert opens with Mozart’s Symphony No 27 in G major, K.199, written when he was only 17.
Prizewinning prodigy Jackie Wong will play Mozart’s much-loved Violin Concerto No 3 in G, K.216, followed by Lawrence Dobell, Principal Clarinet Sydney Symphony, playing the Johann Christian Bach–WA Mozart Clarinet Concerto in E flat, a clever arrangement of Mozart’s early Piano Concerto K.107/3 that was based on a keyboard sonata by JC Bach. This is Lawrence’s first concerto appearance in Melbourne since he won the ABC Concerto Competition in 1982.
The concert concludes with the delightful Sinfonia in G major, Op.3 No.6 by Johann Christian Bach, who was such an important influence on Mozart.
