Monteverdi’s hauntingly beautiful opera about love, ambition and power in Ancient Rome is brought to life by some of Victoria’s finest singers, including soprano Piera Dennerstein as Poppea and Hew Wagner as the Emperor Nero. Also starring acclaimed baritone Michael Lampard as the discarded Ottone, Helen Koehne as the banished Empress Ottavia, Jamie Moffat as the doomed tutor Seneca and Lynlee Williams as Arnalta, Poppea’s maid and confidante. Mandy Lyn Brook, Angelique Tot and Adelaide Soccio Greenaway are the goddesses Fortuna, Virtu and Amor, who set the scene for the story that unfolds. Musical direction and accompaniment are by Pamela Christie.
