These songs mostly in Castilian and Catalan seem to have been composed for, or sung in, the Valencian court of Ferdinand of Aragon, then also Duke of Calabria. The sixteenth-century Uppsala Songbook, discovered in the library of Uppsala University, is one of the best collections of Spanish Villancicos, a term meaning verses and choruses but now understood as Christmas carols. The songs, however, are more diverse, and include the playful, the love-lorn, and songs of consolation, as well as some carols. They will be accompanied by Cornetto, Sackbuts and Organ.
