Music Victoria and Melbourne Recital Centre are proud to work together to support Australian artists through the Music Victoria Awards. In 2023 the award for Best Jazz Work went to Joshua Moshe, and Melbourne Recital Centre supports the category winner with a performance opportunity at the Centre, as part of its dedication to celebrating musicians from Victoria in an intimate setting.
Immerse yourself in the genre-bending brilliance of South African-born, Melbourne-based saxophonist, Joshua Moshe, as he performs his acclaimed debut album, Inner Search. Awarded the 2023 Music Victoria Prize for Best Jazz Album, Joshua seamlessly blends contemporary jazz, Afro-Cuban beats, hip-hop, electronic, and traditional folk music.
In this one-of-a-kind performance, embark on a journey through bold and sonic soundscapes as Joshua fuses two distinct bands. From an electric ensemble with amplification and effects to an intimate acoustic band, the evening culminates with both colliding on the explosive final track, ‘Yehuda.’ Joined by a roster of musicians whose credits span iconic Australian acts such as The Bamboos, The Cat Empire, Husky, and Deborah Conway, this performance shifts between soloists and a full ensemble of seven musicians, in a multifaceted musical experience.
