With a rock-star international reputation for revolutionising classical music for today, violinist Anthony Marwood is ‘a magic name in the business’ (The Independent UK) renowned for his adventurous and ingenious performances and projects.
As a soloist, he is celebrated for his Olympian-calibre endurance and virtuosic resonance. His breadth of experience has seen him work with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Indian classical dancer Mayuri Boonham, Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor, sculptress Nicole Farhi and South African guitarist Derek Gripper.
Formerly the violinist of Florestan Trio for sixteen years, as a chamber musician Marwood’s ever-expanding circle of impressive collaborators includes Steven Isserlis, Aleksandar Madžar, Inon Barnatan, Alexander Melnikov, Denes Varjon and James Crabb.
Ten years after appearing with Aleksandar Madžar in recital, Marwood returns to Elisabeth Murdoch Hall with powerhouse Melbourne pianist Stefan Cassomenos for a captivating performance that pairs Schumann with Janáček and Stravinsky with the Australian premiere of Thomas Adès’ Märchentänze. Together, Anthony Marwood and Stefan Cassomenos deliver an evening of technical mastery, spirited energy and musical flair.
