Heidelberg Choral Society performs our Schubertiade (a concert of Schubert’s choral music) this coming Sunday 4th May at 2.30 pm in the Ivanhoe Centre. You may know some of the music. (the soloists are singing well known Schubert songs) The music the choir sings is beautiful – you will love it. It includes Mass in G, Magnificat, Miriam’s Victory Song (which tells the biblical story of the parting of the red sea) and others. His beautiful setting of ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’, for example, was written as an examination piece for a friend to use with her vocal pupils. The choir is sounding very good and is really enjoying this music.
Schubert was one of the greatest ever composers in the history of Western classical music. In his short life of only 31 years, Franz Peter Schubert’s music was limited to a relatively small circle of admirers in Vienna, and did not get the wider recognition he so richly deserved.
This weekend, you have the opportunity to join with the Heidelberg Choral Society, under the baton of Music Director Peter Bandy, to hear a selection of music that is beautifully expressive, lyrical, passionate and soulful.
Our wonderful soloists are all professional singers. They are:
TERESA INGRILLI (Soprano)
SHAKIRA DUGAN (Mezzo Soprano)
TIMOTHY REYNOLDS (Tenor)
JEREMY KLEEMAN (Baritone)
All have sung with us before and are well-known in Melbourne music circles.
Our excellent pianist is Kathryn Pisani and she will be playing in every piece. Kathryn majored in piano performance and specialised in accompanying and ensemble playing. She has considerable experience accompanying singers and instrumentalists in a repertoire ranging from medieval to contemporary, and in opera and musical theatre productions. She has had a long history of working with choirs, most notably with the Australian Youth Choir, with whom she toured overseas three times, including performances at Carnegie Hall and for HRH Prince Edward. She is repetiteur for the Melbourne Bach Choir as well as ourselves. She is incredibly talented and her skills will be showcased in this concert.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear some of the most rhapsodic melodies and harmonies ever composed. Don’t miss the consummate genius that is Schubert.
