Gloriana Chamber Choir directed by Andrew Raiskums delves into the world of Claudio Monteverdi’s secular music with two great madrigal cycles from the Sixth Book of Madrigals.
In their dramatic range and expressive power both the Lamento d’Arianna and the Sestina rank among Monteverdi’s finest achievements. The world of Monteverdi’s madrigals finds a 20thcentury counterpart in Morten Lauridsen’s thrilling Fire Songs, composed in 1987.
Moving from secular to sacred we present Pergolesi’s much-loved Stabat Mater, in a stunning new transcription for a cappella choir.
Hannah Lane, baroque triple harp
Nick Pollock, theorbo, archlute
