Gloriana’s final concert for 2019 is a magnificent program of music to welcome in the Christmas season.
Beginning with gems by Praetorius, Mouton and Josquin, the main work in this program is Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, one of the composer’s most delightful and endearingly popular works. We are thrilled to be collaborating with harpist Yuko Tomonaga for this performance. Poulenc’s Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël take us from the infinite tenderness of O magnum mysterium to the almost breathless excitement of Hodie Christus natus est. Giles Swayne galvanises the text of the Magnificat by bringing in nothing less than a Zulu warrior chant. Sir John Tavener’s Mother and Child, a truly awe-inspiring work, receives its Melbourne premiere in this concert. Music also by Herbert Howells and Jan Sandström.
We look forward to seeing you there.
