French baroque instrumental style in the 17th century was typified by the French “ouverture” and extensive use of dance movements. Lully was one of the greatest exponents of this musical idiom, which continued to be employed decades after his death. In the second concert of its 2017 series, the Melbourne Baroque Orchestra presents works by Lully, together with wonderful examples of writing in the French style by Bach and Handel.
