Flora Carbo – Ecosystem

Inspired by Flora Carbo’s interest in musical individuality, vocal expression and the vocality of the alto saxophone, ‘Ecosystem’ is a new project featuring an ensemble of vocalists (Merinda Dias-Jayasinha, Mel Taylor and Hannah McKittrick) and alto saxophonists (Flora Carbo, Zac O’Connell, Bernard Alexander). These works explore the role of the individual within a group and the diversity of musical strengths within the ensemble, while also defining a strong and unique sonic voice as a whole. This idea can be paralleled to the functionality of a natural ecosystem and the powerfulness of social change through collective action of individuals.

This concert will feature a newly curated set including elements of these two compositions, presented alongside a set of songs from the three songwriters in the group (Mel, Hannah & Merinda).
