Historic venue Hawthorn Arts Centre will be lit by candles for Firebird Trio’s ‘Dark Vienna’; bringing to light the exhilarating compositions of the 1st and 2nd Viennese Schools.
Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, Johann Strauss II, Kreisler and Webern will be accompanied by historical letters and texts read by musician and broadcaster Alice Keath (ABC Classic).
This performance promises a unique and evocative concert experience by critically acclaimed Firebird Trio.
Founded in 2010, Firebird Trio has performed nationwide to critical acclaim, with a vibrancy of imagination that echoes the Stravinsky ballet suite they are named after.
Pianist/composer Benjamin Martin has been identified by The Australian as ‘the best young talent for the new millennium’, becoming known as an artist of exceptional versatility and subtlety of expression.
Violinist Curt Thompson performs world-wide as concerto soloist, recitalist, concertmaster, and chamber musician at venues including Carnegie Hall’s intimate Weill Recital Hall (NYC), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Teatro Naçional de Costa Rica (San José) and the Shanghai Concert Hall.
Cellist Josephine Vains performs around Australia and internationally to acclaim. Thriving on collaboration, she explores the emotional relationship between musician and audience in chamber performance.
Vains says; “For musicians and audiences alike, the city of Vienna is hallowed musical ground. From Haydn and Beethoven to the ‘Waltz King’ Johann Strauss II, Vienna has been a hugely inspiring cultural hub for centuries.”
The historic hall will have theatre-style seating for the hour and 50-minute concert, including intermission. Boroondara Arts Bar will be open.
